We have an extra LARGE chicken house, that we are going to put them in until we get a goat house built. We are set for buckets and the pen. We just need to get a loose mineral.
The second goat we will be getting is 2 yo. Neither one are bred at this time. The 2 yo has had kids before she is just not pregnant right now.
Our schedule changed a little bit today and we were hoping to go pick them up this evening but we have not been able to get a hold of the sellers so I will have to continue to wait until Monday.
With us getting two goats now, this afternoon my husband said "This means we could have a whole herd of goats next summer!"
Right now we have 16 chickens, 3 turkeys and 2 ducks. It just seems like a natural progression to get goats! I want to get bees in the spring. Plus I have 12 turkey eggs in the 'bator due Thursday. I plan on putting 14 more turkey eggs in my other 'bator tonight! I was thinking about getting some more fertile chicken eggs and throwing them in once this batch of turkey eggs hatch....but I am not sure HOW much my husband can handle! It has taken me at least 2 years of non-stop begging to get these two goats! LOL!!

Two YEARS of begging? Jeez, I now feel like I have it easy. All *I* have to do is make my eyes really big and say, "Please? I *really* want them."

I would love to have some goats. My husband is hard to convince and we have a large fenced pasture and a comfy large enclosed stall in our out building. (And he is retired too!) With 4 adult cats and two new kittens I guess we have become a cat farm. LOL.

Glad your getting 2 goats. I agree with Pony, a lonely & bored goat is an unhappy & troublesome goat. I wouldn't sell a wether to a little guy last year until his family got it a herd/pen mate(I didn't have another to sell at the time).
Your all going to fall in love with your little goats! Try & get some of the feed there used to from the sellar & mix it slowly with the feed your switching them to slowly so not to upset there stomachs.
A good loose mineral is best, with high PPM's of copper. You'll probly do best with a cattle mineral & if you can get one that's dark gray/black in color rather than a red colored loose mineral it would be better. You can get baking soda & mix with the mineral or get one of those 2 sided black mineral didhes frome TSC & put mineral in one side & baking soda in the other(that's what I do).
Sodium Bicarbonate from your feed store is the same as baking soda at the grocery store only it's way cheaper to buy it from the feed store in a 50 pound bag.
Mine also LOVE a little Apple cider vinegar in there water. For treats they Love apple slices, watermelon, cantalope, even orange or banana's(I don't feed them anything that has a Pit), animal crackers, stale rolls or bread & raisins.
Lots of lovoving, scratches & they even like it when we brush them.
Congratulations & don't forget pictures!

LOL
We went to get two milk goats. We came home with nine goats. Two does w/ 5 bucklings between them. Two yearling unbred does. Instant herd. But we have 20 acres for them to eat on & no bush-hog so, it works out fine.

I got the goats today!! Amber is 4 years old and her daughter Lily is 1 year old. They are so super sweet!! Lily definitely would have cried and cried if we would have only bought her!
Amber is in milk and giving about a pint once a day right now. I am hoping her milk production increases as I milk twice a day. The sellers were drying her off because they had a cow that gave birth a couple weeks ago and are milking it.
I will try and get some pictures posted later today.

I am glad you got the second one.. That will make it doubley(SP) better. I got one of Pony's nubi doelings, one because I already had other goats. So you have hopefully saved your sanity Seriously at first nubi's unique voice is all cute and everything, but when they "really" want your attention its like holy cow where did that come from??

Ok, I took pictures of the goaties...and while I was looking for the computer cord I stopped to turn the turkey eggs in my second incubator and found a turkey poult completely hatched in my first 'bator with another two pipped!!!
As soon as I get my baby girl down for a nap I will continue to look for the computer cord.

The other day, the flies were so nasty bad that Trub actually lifted her right foot and planted it SPLASH! into the half gallon of milk in the bucket.
<sigh>
Fed it to the dog and poultry.

Ouch, I *hate* that!
Especially if it has been one of those headache milkings...like one of the kids gets in the milk stall, and I have to chase him out, then one of my dry does knocks over the feed can, and I have to go right that before there is no feed left, finally get back to milking and my poor doe is fidgety from all the commotion, THEN.....EVENTUALLY get her all milked out, basically fighting the entire time....
...only to have her knock the bucket onto the ground.
ARRRGGGHHH!! (Insert image of Caliann pulling out her hair....)
And, of course, such a thing will ONLY happen on a morning when we have used up all of the milk, and I therefore have NONE for my coffee.
~smiles ever so sweetly~
Welcome to the world of goats!
