If you read a description in any book, it says "LaManchas are generally quiet and well behaved." and "Nubians are generally vocal." Yes, there's quiet and loud within each breed, but when you get a nubian, you should count of them being vocal, when you get a LaMancha you can count on them being quieter, etc.
There are exceptions, my two Nubians (actually three, Bob's not too bad) are actually fairly quiet...

"Any book" is hardly what I consider a valid citation.

You are, of course, entitled to your opinion. As frequently noted, opinions are like noses. 'Most everyone has one, and they often smell.

I know a Nubian breeder who culls out the noisy ones. She has a quiet Nubian herd.

Killing a noisy goat? You got to be kidding right? I never had a clue how loud goats could be. I would have never even imagined it. After spending the last 5yrs with my alpacas it's amazing how deafening my two alpine does are. Now that the kids are back in the pasture with them it's really something. One of my alpines almost sounds like a cow though, instead of making a naaaa sound she makes a maaaa sound. It's kinda funny. I imagine she's saying maaalk me! All the others have the n's down so I know when she's talking.

Ah, I complain when I'm down, but I love my goaties and I love their songs. They keep me from being lonely, and it sort of reminds me of when my kids were little (back in the Dark Ages). "Maaaahm! Maaahm! Hey, Mom! Mom!"

LOL!

One of the kids sounds EXACTLY like Trub. Of course, it's the doeling I plan to retain. She's Trub's little shadow, following her everywhere, doing what Trub does... It's cute.

It snowed here and my supposedly quiet Nigerians are the ones who are screaming about it. There are about 6 of them yelling..... at the top of their lungs! Cause we all know that snow melts goats!

I am going to wake up soon and find that I dreamed the snow because it is MAY after all and there should be NO SNOW!

In my experience, goats in a herd with lots of room to roam are the quietest, no matter the breed. Goats in small spaces tend to be louder, especially Nubians who on the whole, tend to talk more anyway. But that doesn't mean all other breeds are quiet!!
Goats who are lonely, bored, upset, just been moved, hungry, etc....that will bring out the noisy in the quietest of goats.
Most of my girls(Boers, Lamanchas and Nubians) are very quiet. But I have one Lamancha and one Nubian who yell when it is time to milk.....or if they are scared. All other times, they are too busy eating or cudding.
And kidding season brings out the noisy around here too.

At our house (in the 8 inches of snow we got overnight last night!!!) our Nubian girls are quiet (regardless of the weather), but our buck (who shares a fence with them) will yell when they get turned out in the pasture and he loses sight of them.

The funny thing though--my daughter's 2 4-H steers have been nicknamed "the Bellow Brothers" as the second they sense someone is up in the morning they start calling for their breakfast! I asked around, and no one else around here has that problem--County Fair should be interesting though!!!

Oh, dear! Thai and 4HMom, I'm so sorry it's snowing in your locations. UGH! (and Nick wonders why I do NOT want to go any further North -- ha!)

Hope that things melt quickly and it becomes SPRING everywhere! (well, at least where it's SUPPOSED to be Spring!)
