The Permecrtin II spray you also said you used for flies, would that be on your horses in the summer months for those biting flies? I wonder if it would also work fon mosquitos at the same time.
I've never seen any ticks on any of our goats or dogs but the flies & mosquitos bother the goats something terrible sometimes. I'm looking for something that repels those things & lasts a little while since they really hate getting sprayed with anything.

FOR FLIES:

I started using "Fly Predators" a couple of years ago and rarely see a fly anymore, even in the chicken house.

The company sent me an e-mail saying Ectiban had been "discontinued". They did not give a reason. The company suggested I contact a company in Harrisonburg about "Permethrin 10%".

Is this 10% too strong for milking does? Should their milk be discarded? Do you "spray" it on the hair of "bucks" or get it onto the skin? I hear it is for flies & moskeetoes; but is it for ticks as well?

Will be contacting the company soon.

I use the Permectrin II the same way as Minelson: 2.5cc per quart. That little bottle goes a loooong way. I just spray down the goats' topline with a direct spray every few weeks and it seems to work well. Of course, they twitch and kick and act as if a horsefly is biting their tails, but I just hold their collars and spray while they're dancing around.

The ticks are awful here in the summer. They seem to like DH and the goats the best.

I don't see any info on Milking does on the label but it says to wash cow teats before milking. You might want to contact the company directly for more info on milking.

I have Skin So Soft too & don't have the problem with ticks but I do with flies biting them sometimes & mosquito's bad in the summer months. The Skin So Soft works pretty good & I think it helps if they have any dry skin too but I wish it would last longer.

I was thinking if the Permectrin II last longer maybe it would be better & 2 weeks is alot less spraying of each goat than I normally do with the skin so soft.

I was even thinking about just regular mosquito spray that you'd use on people too, the deep woods kind that also works for flies too.

The best way to get rid of ticks is chickens. Forget those horrid chemicals.

I had that terrible tick situation about a week ago, spent much time getting them off both bucks (none on any of the does or kids) and then rubbing the areas with that salve. In checking both bucks over the last 2 days, I have found "no" ticks on them and the places where ticks had been (and I had rubbed the salve) were healing real well. (Remember when rubbing this salve on, the live ticks were immediately dying; so think this is working real well so far.)
