Unfortunately, she miscarried a few weeks ago. A perfect white buckling.
She didn't have long to go, she was huge and the kid was fully formed. The placenta took its good time to come out and didn't look very healthy.

And that's why I ended up buying the mom and kid now, I wasn't planning on having a singleton - God laughs at plans!

That's just the way it goes sometimes...

Okay, mom and kid home. They said it was a doeling, which it was not (unless I'm mistaken, does don't pee out their "middle end") - but that's fine.

The doe was the underdog in her group, so there's not much fighting. But she's very uneasy, she constantly called out for her herd and all she got was Fauna butting heads. How long does it take for a doe like her to calm down and feel like home?
I put her into the kidding stall alone with her buckling for the night, and she calmed right down.

I was thinking tomorrow I could let just the moms and babies meet each other and keep busybody Fauna out of the mix.

They are both white by the way, like my Fauna. No pics yet, maybe tomorrow, we got home late.

Every week hubby reminds me we have 27. Or 24. then 28.....I just tell him to get used to it and don't get in the way of my breeding regime!

In answer to your question, yes, Ferdinand needed some company. Right. Ferdinand needed some company.

That was helpful, right?

They've settled in nicely now.
I put up the moms and babies in the kidding stall and kept the dominant one tied so she only had access to half the stall. That meant the new one could move around and greet, but get away from any butting. This morning they're the best of pals and Edel (the new one) has found her new herd.

Not much butting from Fauna either, and now they're all foraging happily together.

I've got pics too!

She's a little thin (not a lot of rumen to speak of), and I think she's more likely one year than two - what do you think?

Beautiful goats with beautiful scenery to go with them.
