OMG what wondeful surprises!!!!!
Oh, and name the black one the breeder's name, "In honor of his delightful gifts to your family."

NO WAY could I let the darlings go...

of course, the wether might be a compromise.

I don't think you should feel obligated that you must give them back, but if she was given to you of no charge, which is what I thought, only because he thought she couldn't get pregnant, I personally would offer one of them - lol. . . I am just like that. . . "Do Unto Others" and all.

Well, we've decided to keep both! We are the type of people that say we definitely want no more animals of any type but if a cutie comes along - it stays - we get attached very quickly. We once thought of breeding our dog but knew we wouldn't be able to let the puppies go when the time came!

I know I am under no obligation to give the breeder anything and he hasn't suggested that I do, it's just that when I started out, I had two miniatures - one died and I replaced him with two "big" goats. The big goats turned out to be way too big for our housing - horns caught in fence, etc. This breeder took them in and is keeping them as pets. After he took them he called me and told me about this miniature doe who didn't seem to be able to conceive and I could have her. Well......five months later!!!

So I do feel bad for him. I think I will offer him some money, as payment for the momma since she was given to me free, that he can use towards buying another doe. I just feel I have to do something.

I answered this last night and it showed up, now it isn't here. So,...........

I went to a recent goat seminar at UT where I took the parasite wet lab and asked Dr. Faulkner (Dr. Patton's partner) that specific question-

Since the L4 stage is an immature worm, the med does nothing to the worm but cause resistance- the med will only kill the mature worms. Some choose to worm every month and that also causes resistance to the med. Dr. Faulkner was saying that with good management, you should not have to worm more than 3x a year. Herbal wormers were also part of the discussion.....

Dr. Pugh was at this same seminar last year and he sure is something. Kinda 'raw' in smaller venues, but well worth seeing. Remember, he works for Ft. Dodge and has to say some of the things he says because of his job.

Please do not feel scared about emailing these Dr.'s- Dr. Patton is the past- Pres. of the American Society of Parasitologists. spatton@utk.edu
