WHEN??? (rant)

Okay, I am so happy for everyone whose does are kidding, but I am so tired and frustrated!

My poor doe is lying there, HUGE as a beached whale, and NADA. NICHTS. NOTHING.

I'm at the point where I'm too tired to sleep (though I am going to try again as soon as I finish this).

<sigh>

Wags 03/15/10 11:30 PM

Well if she is like one of my does last year that kept me up all night, she will kid the minute you turn your back.

canadiangirl 03/16/10 05:43 AM

Go call your girlfriend and make plans for a lunch but make sure the doe hears you. She'll think your going out and BAM.

Backfourty,MI. 03/16/10 06:11 AM

I feel for you Pony, try to relax & get some sleep. You know those babies are coming sooner or later & we'll hope for Sooner!! For your sake!

I can hardly wait to see those babies when they finally get here after all this waiting Trub's making all of us go through!

nehimama 03/16/10 06:12 AM

Well, for your sake, and for ours, I do hope your girl GETS WITH THE PROGRAM. :)

I know how you feel, and you MUST be exhausted. Try to get some sleep, eh? Hang in there.

Jyllie63 03/16/10 06:16 AM

I think it's true Pony...make plans to be away and she'll have them. I rushed home from work everyday last week...went no where after I got home...watched her like a hawk...and nothing! Yesterday with my dd home from college I felt a little more relaxed. She said she was going to the mall and checked on my goat and said she wasn't doing anything. So I decided to stop and get some necessities..(bread, sugar, milk, butter) after work and got home to new babies :) . I had just missed it too because she hadn't expelled the afterbirth yet. It WILL happen! Hang in there!

Tallabred 03/16/10 07:10 AM

I have been using up gas. I run out for one errand, come back, go out and run another errand, come back. I had 4 trips out yesterday because I have let my errands build up - she should have it today!

Beached groaning whale - I hear yah! LOL

Tallabred 03/16/10 07:11 AM

Isn't today her due date? It will be TODAY. It will be TODAY. I keep trying chanting to them. :)

Pony 03/16/10 09:04 AM

Thanks! I know it's silly to agonize over this, but it's my first goat, and I've read too many "worst case" scenarios.

I appreciate the encouragement!

Hmm... Think I will run all the way up to the Big Town today, and I'll be SURE to let Trub know all about it! <wink, wink, nudge, nudge>

wintrrwolf 03/16/10 09:56 AM

Well shucks am feeling for ya, was going to schedule a vacation (finally) around Gypsy's due date but now I am not sure, she would be so kind and have it on schedule... Still I need a vacation (pondering)...

tailwagging 03/16/10 10:05 AM

I got tired of watching my doe and as soon as I left it up to fate (and a good rainy night) she had them. Of course she rejected the doeling so I have goat in the house . And if you remember 2 years ago I said I would never bottle feed again lol.

Tallabred 03/16/10 10:05 AM

How are her ligs? Candy's disappeared and then reappeared, then disappeared, then reappeared.

Last year was my first year and I had 2 give birth with triplets 6 hours apart - missed the first one by minutes then Candy was 2nd with one leg back on the first one. It is VERY exciting to double your herd in minutes!

So the "disappearing, reappearing" ligs aren't in my imagination? Phew! That's a relief! It feels like they're gone, but then, next time I feel, it's like they're flattened out but there.

Do you think it would help if I made her get up and take a walk?

Minelson 03/16/10 10:23 AM

I think a walk is a good idea! I know the waiting really stinks...hang in there! :)

Tallabred 03/16/10 10:27 AM

It definitely gives YOU something to do :) We could also boil water ;)

just wait until you check her when her ligaments are REALLY gone for good. You'll feel a HUGE difference.. (and know what to feel for next time).. I think taking her on a walk would be great. (for both of you.. stress relief for you.. maybe enough to get the babies moving for her) .. what day is she on? 149? Edith is a Many Names daughter.. she ALWAYS kids on day 151, every year. I know the waiting is hard.

susie, mo ozarks

WalnutGroveFarm 03/16/10 10:49 AM

Good Luck, hope she has them soon for you. That you dont have to waite to much longer. I got a doe that is due 4/7/10 and Im already starting to worry about it. lol

That's right -- I forgot you have Troubles' sister there with you. We're on Day 150 here. We'll see if sisters run alike. Any idea how long Many Names went?

I figured the walk would be good, because it just CANNOT be good for that gal to be lying about and moving only to relieve herself. Didn't go too far for her first walk. She's moving slowly, and it has been a while since she had to walk farther than the food bucket. ;)

The boys thought they should come walking, too. Beaux Tie is becoming obnoxious. I have to carry a stick or a clanking metal bowl I have to keep him from being too aggressive. Either he gets convinced that I am NOT in the herd, or he will have to go away.

Off to boil water... LOL!

dm9960 03/16/10 12:58 PM

can I join you in the waiting game? My girl is doing the same things. she is normally a very quiet lady, the past couple days she has been starting to talk some, when I checked on her last night, she was lieing there moaning, but nothing yet. no goo, but I think she may be a bit moist there, and definitely more pink.

Sure! C'mon and sit on the "My Goat Hasn't Kidded Yet" couch with us. :)

Tallabred 03/16/10 01:25 PM

Yours gets up to relieve herself? I go down and there is a pile of poop pellets right behind Candy. It takes WAY to much effort to get up! LOL

Actually, I think relieving herself is an after-thought. She doesn't like me looking under her tail, and gets up every time I lift it.

Sad to watch her struggle her bulky body up to stand on all four pins, so I'm making use of the opportunity now with the walking I mentioned earlier.

I'm so glad your girl is doing the same things; it really helps me to calm down. A bit. ;)

Right back at you:sing:

cmharris6002 03/16/10 04:42 PM

Hang in there, it won't be too much longer. We are all here for you and have been through it too. Waiting is the hardest part :sing:

Wags 03/16/10 04:43 PM

I was sure when I checked back just now I was going to see a kidding report.

Waiting and watching can be so draining - and since in my first pregnancy in particular I was carrying a lot of extra amniotic fluid and looked like a beached whale I empathize with them so much when they lay there not wanting to move. I've got 8 more days until day 145 for my first doe to kid this year, and if my children ask me one more time "Mom, how long until Mame' has her babies" I think I'm going to scream!

petaddict 03/16/10 05:01 PM

My last two does kidded on day 151. Look at it this way, after they kid you'll have all this energy from all the activity and you'll realize the waiting made it that much more exciting. I don't have any due now until the end of May and already I miss the waiting. Call me crazy.

Pony 03/16/10 05:31 PM

I got tired of sitting on my... er... keyboard, so I went out to walk her again. Got the bucks into the separate fenced area, and led my reluctant doe around a bit.

Then I got a burst of energy. Her stall looks TERRIBLE from her lying about for nearly a week, so I kicked her out! Amazingly, she moved around and didn't try to lie down outside.

Once I got all the excess straw/grass/excreta out of there, I spread around a comfy cushion of brome (the only thing I have right now, and it's softer than oat straw anyway). THEN... my girl walked around and visited with me. Went to her feeder (I'd been bringing her feed/hay to her), ate, went outside again, and then came in to lie down.

She seems a lot better for all that movement. Me, too.:)

bcadybug 03/17/10 06:23 AM

Well? *Pony* anything?

Tallabred 03/17/10 07:33 AM

How is your doe doing Pony? This morning when I checked Candy her ligs are definitely gone - BIG difference - I feel like I could pick her up by using her spine as a handle!

Rainy day so I put her in her own stall area - I do think that it will be today!!!!

Pony 03/17/10 08:31 AM

Bah! Nothing!

This dairy goat is milking it for all she's worth.

Tallabred, I'm so hoping for you that today's the day!

Tallabred 03/17/10 08:48 AM

ME TOO! I took some pictures of Candy but can not find the cord to connect to the computer! I had read that the udder gets full in the front, which Candy's is now, that it shouldn't be long.

It is funny, I can tell you if a mare will foal in the next 6-8 hours but I can not figure out a goat yet.

Rain is good today- I can put Candy in her own stall but all her herd mates will stay in near her.

When the dongle goes missing 'round here, I generally look for the iPod. ;)

It's cloudy here today. Tomorrow is supposed to be in the 60's, but then the temps plummet back to 35 -- what's with that?

Figures. I pick the one little bitty section of MO that's zoned 4b...

gracie88 03/17/10 09:12 AM

Anymore room on that couch? I just have this one more girl and then I can relax until May, but I swear she thinks she can hold it 'til then.

bcadybug 03/17/10 09:51 AM

DARN IT! I was sure hoping yesterday she would kid for ya. My Ober kidded sometime between when I was home for lunch and when I got home from work yesterday. I'm done until May now.

Keeping my fingers crossed TODAY IS THE DAY!

Val

Wags 03/17/10 09:55 AM

If your printer or computer has a card reader you don't need a cord to get pictures off your camera.

dm9960 03/17/10 09:56 AM

Val, congratulations! what did she have?
Cathy, keeping my fingers crossed for you today!
Pony, we're still sitting on the couch together I guess.
Gracie, sit on down, we'll make room for ya!
come on over Rose!
man, this couch is getting full! we need more kidding!

dm9960 03/17/10 10:08 AM

they sure do have quite a sense of humor! goo is a good sign! I wish mine would do something, she is getting big as a house! holding to her goat code of honor, I guess.

bcadybug 03/17/10 10:14 AM

She had a buckling and doeling! FINALLY, I GOT A GIRL! :sing:

These two kids are MONSTEROUS.... they are twice the size of my Nubian buckling born on Saturday. I will get pix and post this afternoon.

These two are Nubian/Oberhasli mix..... Think I'll call them Nuberhasli's!

Val

Tallabred 03/17/10 10:36 AM

Now Val -- did she have a slightly bucky smelling head?

Candy has no bucky smell to her at all. Last year she had 3 doelings by the same buck so I am hoping for all doelings again.

Who else on the couch has smelled their does head? Gives us something else to do :)

Pony 03/17/10 11:03 AM

All I smell when I give Trub's head a sniff is STUBBORN.

She reeks of it. ;)

While we're on the couch, let's have a singalong!

And I'll bring some cookies. Oatmeal/raisin?
