I have to give my llamas shots every month with ivermecin to prevent mengial worm. Mine are friendly llamas though. You will need a halter on her, and have someone slam her body against a wall in a stall and also tie her up tight to the wall. At the base of the neck/shoulder, you will feel a v-shape area that has muscle - that's where you should give the antibiotic. And Yes, I would definitely give her some antibiotics. LA-200 should be given sub-q though - you can try to pinch some skin along the neck (just like you would on a goat), or behind their front leg. LA-200 is long lasting and will sting, but if it's obvious that her temp may be up,you need to do something.
If you're lucky, sometimes llamas cush when they think they're going to be handled, so it's easier to do the shots then.

Yes, the cria looked full term.

She is up and about this AM. Her ears are still warm, but she looks better than last night. I will call and see what the vet says when they open.

If she is still good later this am maybe I can put her out with the old llama mama. so she can get some air without being harassed.

Thank you all for your help and support. I will update later.

Vet visit

Vet was here.
She did a quick exam, could not tell much. (as is is 4 days post birth.) She said that llamas should not have much of a discharge. Llama is very full with milk and swelling. Between that and the limited exam, she was not able to find a definite "cause." She showed me how to do the shots, which went fine. She gave her two and I gave her one. Banamine in the neck/shoulder subQ, which meant the needle goes in at an angle, but still to the base. and the PennG goes IM in the back of the back leg, the fleshy part that has hair not wool.
She'll either get better or not. The banamine and penicillin should help if it can. Walking her will help, as will hot compress if we want to do that .
Llama was very good about the shots, poor girl, her temp was 104, think normal is 100/101, but am not sure.
THANKS everyone!! I will try to update later.

Oh good, I am glad you had the vet to see her.
Now you know how to give a llama a shot.

What did the vet guess her weight to be? (curious)

Good luck to the both of you.

Yes, that was half the reason I was able to justify the vet visit, lol. (to learn the shots.)

I think the vet estimated her weight at 400 and our male at 500.

Sundy UPDATE:
She was laying down when I went out to do chores. (she had not laid down for a while and her legs were tired Sat night.) I gave her a fresh bucket of water, and she drank a bit. Her ears were not as warm.
By the time I was done with chores and checked on her again, she was up, humming, and looking out the windows, showing interest in the world.

Of course now I am afraid that DH will never want to part with her now that he cared for her. Ya'll know how that goes. Of the 5 llamas we have, I like this one the least, grrr. lol.
