Three does ringing in the new year.

Wow! Went to check on the girls about 3:30 & all 3 had delivered at once! 6 babies! There was mass confusion and pandamonium. Babies yelling, mommas yelling. Placentas everywhere. The wife & I were running for towels, drying babies & trying to figure out who belongs with who. 2 were first timers. 1 single. 1 set of twins & 1 set of triplets. One of the twins has a bad over bite and is having a lot of trouble sucking. Pics. tomorrow...

Jyllie63 01/01/10 08:36 PM

Wow! Can't wait for pics!

nehimama 01/01/10 08:37 PM

Wow! Just - WOW. Happy New Year, eh? I hope everyone figures out who belongs to whom at your barn - LOL! (A couple years ago I had 3 does kid out before noon one day. Pretty much like you described.)

-TWO- 01/01/10 09:57 PM

We're having trouble with the new moms letting their kids suck. The one with 3 seems overwhelmed. The baby with the sever overbite really worries me. Wife is trying to hand feed it now. Thank God it warmed up & we both have all weekend off. Any advice would be appriciated. It's going to be a long night.

Tonya 01/01/10 10:18 PM

CONGRATS!!!!

Time to hire a nanny! :icecream:

-TWO- 01/02/10 12:12 AM

5 girls & a boy. The little boy has the parrot mouth but mom's starting to stand for him and his sister, he still has some trouble but he got a good drink. The doe with triplets still won't stand but we held her so all 3 kids got a good meal. The doe with 1 kid is the veteran and is doing fine with hers. Everything should be good till morning.

QoTL 01/02/10 12:35 AM

I''m sorry, I just have this ridiculous mental picture of big sloopy placentas flying through the air and hitting something with a wet thwack! LOLOL!!

What I really mean is CONGRATS!

But gave me a smile!

Backfourty,MI. 01/02/10 09:35 AM

Congratulations! # doe's & all deliver on the exact same day & basically same time is pretty amazing I think!
Can't wait to see all the pictures.
I never had one with an overbite like you describe so I hope he can figure it out & he makes it. I had a first freshener deliver triplets this past summer & she would definately not take care of 1 of them. Didn't matter what we did, she would not take care of him. We tried bottle feeding him but he didn't make it. She did a Great job with the other 2 though. Sometimes I think they know more than we do, she knew she just couldn't take care of 3 her first time with babies I guess!
Her mother usually has triplets & raises them with no problems, we'll see what this spring brings here for us.

desertshi 01/02/10 10:28 AM

OMG!!! WOW! lol. That is CRAZY! I get all excited about ONE kidding. I cannot imagine walking in to see all my girls with brand new babes! lol. Hope the triplet momma figures it out. You might have to supplement one or two. Happy new year!! lol.

dosthouhavemilk 01/02/10 01:06 PM

Any chance you could graft one of the triplets onto the doe with the singleton?

As far as the parrot mouth is concerned, we had our first this year. A doeling. If they can nurse they can gain weight well, but with ours once she was weaned she started going downhill fast. So if we run into it again, the kid will be shipped for meat at weaning. A lot depends on the severity, of course, but just keep in mind that even if he thrives while nursing, maintaining weight without an easy to nurse teat will be a challenge.

-TWO- 01/02/10 03:08 PM

What a morning! We checked in twice through the night & all seemed well but this morning one of the triplets was down. She was badly chilled & barely alive, we brought her in&finally got the chill out of her. I ran to town to get some fresh pritchard nipples. We got some milk from the does and got some down the kid. She's showing signs of getting stonger, holding her head up, trying to stand & her vioce is stronger. We're still not sure who she belongs to. The rest of the kids are nursing and doing good. If we can get this baby strong enough to nurse we think it will be ok if a doe will take her. We did get some milk out of the doe that lost her babies last week. If noone else will take this baby, maybe she will. Wife is out taking pics now.

dm9960 01/02/10 06:02 PM

wow, what an adventure you're having! I sure hope the one that's having a hard time is alright. You're doing great!

goatkid 01/02/10 07:38 PM

Congrats on all the babies. I wouldn't try and give the baby back to the doe who you think may have had triplets. She'll likely always be last to eat. In my herd, she'd remain a bottle baby. If you can graft her onto the doe who lost her kids, that may work as well. As for the little buckling with the parrot mouth, he may have internal problems as well. I had one buckling with a parrot mouth, and while he could take the bottle with no problem and he also ate hay, he failed to thrive and died at a couple months old. He should definately be castrated and raised for meat only.

Pretty Babies, -TWO-,
The little doeling that you have in the house feeding will smell like the doe that your getting the milk from so most likely she is the only one that may take her. Could be wrong though but goats are funny like that. Then I've heard stories of doe's that will feed anyone's kids, so who knows for sure.
Your doing a great job, keep up the good work & hopefully everyone will be thrive & do well without bottles.

awww, she's not the baby nobody wants! She can come live here! <3

Everyone else is adorable, too!

Backfourty,MI. 01/02/10 08:36 PM

The little one no one wants looks like she should go with Rosie & the little parrot mouth looks like he belongs to Ruby.
They are all so cute, I sure hope they all make it!

& the culprit that caused all this trouble; Quincy

Wait, so the parrot mouth and the chilled doeling are from the same Mom? No question in my mind, take away the boy and put the girl back on as soon as possible. Rub some of Mom's gunk on her so she doesn't smell the other goat's milk.

I remember one time with triplets, the first kid to nurse was the chilled one in the morning. When watching, he would be polite and wait his turn to nurse but there was nothing left for his turn. I sold the doeling as a bottle baby and he had no problems after that. Some kids just are not aggressive.

Whenever I have triplets and a single born at the same time, I put the gunk of single Mom on one of the triplets so single Mom accepts it as her own. Jumped the gun once because single Mom had another kid later so I had to give it a bath and move it again.

LOVE THE TWINS!!

We think she "is" Rosies baby. We've tried but Rosy won't have anything to do with her. We have had some luck with Dahli, the doe that lost her babies to the cold. She let her suck & shows some interest.

Backfourty,MI. 01/02/10 08:54 PM

Now Qunicy doesn't look like a trouble maker to me. He's a cutie & looks like he smirking at you.

I'd keep trying to get Dahli to keep her then if it is seeming like it will work! That would be Great for the little doeling & the doe that lost her babies.

In the confusion last night, we assumed the little chilled baby was Lillies because Rosy accepted 1 & kept pushing this one away & at first Lillie wouldn't have anything to do with any of them. So we are sure now, there were 3 sets of twins. Its been confusing for us and the does. Little parrot mouth & his sister unmistakingly are Rubys babies.

dm9960 01/02/10 09:45 PM

I can't get over how beautiful they all are! I hope they all grow big and healthy, and that daddy sure looks proud!

Quincy is a good boy. And does his job, no mistake. We normaly shoot for early spring births. Last August the 3 small pastures were running out so we put everyone on the big pasture together. We used to get away with that with our Saanens & Toggenbergs. Those does never came in heat until October and the bucks left them alone. We're kind of new to these Boer X's. I've heard they can come into heat any time of the year. I figured we were safe as Quincy is mostly Nubian. Didn't think he would rut at least until the weather cooled off. Boy was I wrong. when we put Him & the wethers in with the does ol' Quincy boy must of went right to work 'cause it was barely 5 months from then 'till now. Well, we learned a valuable lesson at the cost of 2, maybe 3 kids.

luvzmybabz 01/03/10 07:59 AM

We have a doe that has an overbite it does not look as bad as your little boys but she is almost 2 and is bigger then her sister. The mother of these 2 died wat birth with their triplet so they were bottle fed. She is always nibbling on something!

Jyllie63 01/03/10 08:04 AM

They are all gorgeous! Congratulations!

deetu 01/03/10 03:37 PM

Sooo, how's the doeling doing?

-TWO- 01/03/10 05:11 PM

She is doing very well. We couldn't graft her onto another doe so we've adopted her into the family. We started her on replacer so it looks like we'll be on a 6 hr X 4 times a day schedule for the next few weeks. She got 3 good doses of colostrum. All the others are with their moms and doing good. Thankyou everyone for the words of encouragement and advice. Its been quite an ordeal, But all's well that ends well.

deetu 01/03/10 07:08 PM

Please don't put her on replacer. Do a search to see why.

Regular store bought whole cow milk is better. I would put a drop of corn syrup and probiotics in each feeding too.
Last time I did bottle feeding, I went to the cow barn down the street and they would give me new raw milk every few days.

Looks like the dogs are willing to take care of her :)

Jyllie63 01/03/10 07:16 PM

Awe...she's so cute! We had one that lived in the house for the first 6 weeks or so...I would take her out for visits with the other goats, but we loved having her in the house. Is there any way you can milk the goats you have for her milk supply? I agree with Deetu...Cow's milk would be better than replacer.

dm9960 01/03/10 07:24 PM

I love her colors and markings!

-TWO- 01/03/10 08:19 PM

Its been awhile since we've bottle fed. We've used replacer in the past to suppliment goats milk when we raised dairy goats and never had any problems. Fill me in. What wrong with replacer? We want to know.

deetu 01/04/10 08:54 AM

Too many kids bloat from it. Here is one post on the subject. http://www.homesteadingtoday.com/sho...=milk+replacer
Do a search and you will find more.

I sold someone a doeling that was a few days old. I told her to feed cow's milk with probiotics and a drop of corn syrup in it but she decided to feed replacer and didn't tell me. The kid ended up bloating real bad and dying.

I have come across goat milk replacer that was made of goat milk since but haven't had an opportunity to try it or even know if the store still supplies it.
