Mine slept outside next to the bale until it hit about -25 F and then started sleeping in their open air shed. I never saw them shiver. Unlimited good hay, some alfalfa at night and water was enough.

I would do the dog house on top of the mat with straw. But I'm in South Dakota with brutal winters. You are from Kentucky right? Does your shed face south?

Just remember, Pony. These goats were born in colder weather than you are having now.

As long as your shed opening doesn't face the prevailing wind/storms the three sided one should be ok. Although if you put up even a partial wall in a corner it would be better.

We have a weird micro climate with swirling winter winds, and I took that into account when situating the new goat barn. Everyone comments on the angle it sits at compared to the other buildings, but it provides the most protection from the elements.

Yeah, but they had some 50+ more goats to huddle with against the cold!

I'm sure they're fine, now. Nick insists that Trub's coat is thricker, but when I look at how thick ol' Stinky's coat is, hers pales by comparison.

Planning to take the splint off next week, and then wrapping the leg with an elastic bandage. Then we'll go ahead and let the buckling do what comes naturally.

Nick's afraid to let them be together until her leg is 100%. <shrug> I dunno.

But at least I know they're comfortable enough out there.

yes and i think it faces south,I'm not sure.I think the dog house with the mat would be good to,so then in the summer it would also be cool on the rubber mat.
