ok another update I did find a goat friend for Sugar its a cute pygmy doe (no laughing) anyways been working with the new addition since she was more a herd doe with less human contact, and we are all doing better to a point, its been only 2 days now. I noticed last night Sugar has developed a cough, the kind of cough were she is making a hacking dry noise and her back is arched. I dont know if its because she slept out in the rain under my window and not in her goat house which she is doing now with gypsy. And I found out the only livestock vet around is 50 miles east of us?? Is there something I can give her our TSC doesnt have alot in stock for goats...

YOu will soon learn at least 90% of the meds, wormers supplements etc that you will be giving your goats will NOT be labeled for goats but we had to use something and someone took the time to figure the dosages out for goats. I have a list just a little over 2 pages of meds that can be used for what and doseage etc out of 35 anly 5 have actaually been approved for Goats use ( meaning labeled for goats. I can't remember where I got the list exactly but I got the link from this board I think.

I'm glad you found Sugar a friend. As for the cough, take her temperature. Normal temp for a goat is 101.5-104. If she's eating OK actig OK and doesn't have a fever, I wouldn't give her anything. If she has a fever and acts off, then she needs the RX meds Nuflor or Naxcel and Banamine.

Vaccinate her a month before her kids are due with 2 cc's of CD&T. This will pass on to the kids as well. Then booster her after the kids are born, again with 2 cc's. I then do all my kids at 8 weeks old and then a booster 21 to 28 days later, again 2 cc's no matter what size. After that I give them all a yearly shot to keep them up to date.
Pictures: sign up at www.photobucket.com -it is free. Upload your pictures to the site. Then click and copy on the last link it gives you right under your picture, paste that link right into your post here and you can preview it to make sure you have the picture in your post. It is pretty easy after you do it the first time.
Congrats on your new goats

Thaiblue, I always thought it was a yearly shot too...but Emily says it's twice a year.. Confused - CD&T vs CDT antitoxin?

Everyone has a different opinion Minelson as we all know I have a vet that I now trust, (nice for a change ) and he and everything I read says the immunity lasts for a year.
I do not like over vaccinating, I am sure it will not in this case cause a resistance, like over using an antibiotic would but I still do not like to overload them if there is no benefit, again my opinion based on reading and asking.
I also do not worm them every few months or everytime they have clumpy poop. I take in their fecals, they send them out, they say no worms or eggs then I do not worm them. That is a benefit of living in the dry brown Colorado, lack of worms, fleas and ticks
Like I said it is my opinion and I fear that zapping them for every little thing or over using things will make them unthirfty or weak, maybe I am off my rocker lol but it works for me.

Goats have a much faster metobolism and the twice yearly vaccinations are recccomended by most in the know.
If you have non-working goats(pets), who do not go through the stressers of breeding, pregnancy, kidding, milking, and all over again, your goats will probably be fine with yearly boosters.
For working goats, twice yearly is reccomended.
Overvaccination is something I try not to do, but what is worse than over vaccination?? Under-vaccination.
