Well, as a 14 year vegetarian, selling for meat is something I cannot bear the thought of personally. . .
That is why I have discouraged my husband from trying to take the breeding of the Nubians too far because I know that, whether I like it or not, some will go for meat with those who buy the whethers or bucklings. There are no local Nubian breeders, and goats, large and small, are popular pets and for livestock companions here, and so few people raise them, a few bucklings a year would be easy to find pet/livestock companion homes for. Now, can I be sure in 3 years they will not change their minds? No, but I cannot be sure that isn't the case with the Straight Egyptian Arabs I breed either. So, I can just screen the homes and move on once I've done a good job placing them.
Pygmys are much easier because they are pets even as bucks in my experience.

I actually had wanted a Jersey heifer for a long while, but I did not know about sexed semen and being able to get a heifer with each calf, so until I learned about that and knew with the there being no local Jersey breeders, that a heifer a year would find a milking family home, I would not get one to breed. I am meeting a Mother from a PA Monastery the day after tomorrow to purchase the heifer now that I know the above.

I know many people find this silly, but at any rate, I enjoy the goats, horses and cows as pets, and going outside that into a meat type business with them is not something I can personally do. . . luckily, my husband, former Marine that he is, is okay with this as well.
