Aren't ALL does princesses?!?! My girls say YES!!!! (j/k)

I have Nubians and some are quiet while some talk quite a bit. I think it's personality plus how they are raised. My noisy goats came from a place where their owner responded to the talking, thus encouraging it. I ignore it and reward soft talking or absolute quiet. I do enjoy being greeted, but not "talked to death" LOL! Having said that I LOVE the breed and can't imagine any other large dairy goat.

I'd love to train our little princess to be quieter by reinforcing the behavior we want, but the moment she sees one of us (even Bud D Dawg), she starts in with that desperate bleating.

I went out to hang the laundry, and she popped up from eating grass and started in. It took all my patience to remain calm, hang the laundry as though I didn't hear her (as if!) and go back in the house.

Still and all, she is a darling doe, and the buckling is gorgeous. Hopefully, he won't pick up on her vocal ways.

One of the things I like about mine is how they come get you when there's a problem. If someone gets their head stuck in a fence, all the other goats run back to the gate and start bellowing for the people. "Get the people! The people can help! Everyone call the people!"

I had LaManchas for three years, and then started a new herd with Nubians in April.

They don't "baaaaaa". They "baaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaa!" Tongues thrust out a foot, eyes bursting with emotion, ears twirling, panting, gasping.

Gawd I LOVE THEM!!!!

I don't know why it doesn't bother me. I just heard that Nubians are drama queens and chalk it up to their temperament. A single bleat to a LaMancha is a five minute ululation ear twirling conniption fit to a Nubian. They aren't in more pain or need, they just talk more about it

Some Nubians are always loud, but you must remember that you have only had her for a couple weeks. Until your place and your schedule becomes normal for her(depending n the goat that can be long or short), any goat(of any breed)I imagine that particular goat will always be mouthy but she should surely get better as she becomes accustomed to her new situation.
Going from a herd of 50 to a herd of 2.......big changes for her.
Most of my Nubians are quiet.........you got the daughter of the only loud Nubian I own.......

But if I didnt feed them and she will be screaming. She is a queen herd. JEEZ! My husband was about ready to strangle her! LOL But she is the best milker! Also I do know that one of my brown is best buddy with my blond. The blond always get stuck. The brown will be screaming until my hubby or I go there to check.

Now, please don't think I'm dissing your herd! I love my goats, but you have to admit: Trub is a loudmouth!

She's getting better, and has some spells of being almost quiet. I rewarded her yesterday for being quiet by going over to her and feeding her some raisins (which she loves, BTW).

My only concern is that Bow may start following her lead. He started making noise yesterday. His little bleat is cute -- for now.

I have 6-7 Nubians and one Nigerian dwarf. That dwarf makes more noise than all of the Nubians combined! My Nubs are very laid back and lovely! The ND annoys me!

I have Nubians and LaManchas. I would be sooo greatful if everyone who has a breed prejudice, foolish stereotype, or plain ignorance would just put it in a sock. Either have goats or don't have goats, but keep your whining to yourself.

Goodness! Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning?

I am new to goats. I was making an observation about the Nubians I have, and I wanted to do a bit of a reality check. People were making comparisons and their own observations. I saw it as folks having a bit of fun, actually.

If you feel that people are whining, perhaps you could just do what most folks do when they see a thread they don't care for: Move on to the next one.

Hope your day improves, dude.

I've had Nubians from two totally different bloodlines...all of them were very vocal - My fainter isn't. Facts are facts...Nubians do tend to be more vocal. I'm a quality manager and deal with a lot of statistics. I'm sure if you did a controlled study the data would prove it.

And don't think all of us are grouchy - it's only a few. The majority of the goat folks I know are friendly, funny, loving people. Maybe Madfarmer forgot to drink his coffee

I bet- and I could be wrong- that if such a study were done, nubians would NOT be found to talk MORE, but only to be louder when they do

Well I'll be honest and say I was a little offended as well at some of the posts. I know you guys didn't really mean it to be rude though. And I agree with Southerngurl.

I didn't see anything offensive.... My Nubians are loud and annoying. They don't even sound like normal goats either. I guess you can't please everyone...

I think it's more the stereo typing that's a little offensive. It's like YOUR Nubians are loud but not EVERYONE'S are. You know what I mean? I hope I'm not making this thread worse, I'm just trying to politely point out some stuff. This sure seems a lot like High School. (this coming from a 19 year old, lol)

But anyways, it's just like people, some are different then others.

Exactly, take it or leave it. It's a message board. There's bound to be a million different opinions. Really, who cares if someone thinks every nubian in the world is loud? Does it really effect you and your daily life? No, I highly doubt it. I don't know, I just think people are too sensitive these days. You don't have to agree with everyone, that's where you agree to disagree. No reason to get mad over it or upset.

My point is, new people come here hoping to find accurate information so that they can make good choices. When they hear crud such as, 'all Nubians are loud', all Alpines are mean', 'all Toggs have nasty milk', no one is well served. These blanket condemnations, while not as defamatory, spring from the same ignorance as, 'all African-Americans are lazy,' 'all Mexicans steal,' 'all
Muslims are terrorists,' ad nauseum. A while back, someone here killed their ketonic doe by treating it with whiskey, on the advice of such an 'expert'

The handle "Madfarmer" has nothing to do with temper. It comes from a poem by Wendell Berry, found in his collection "Farming: A Handbook"

I always take everyone's opinion with a grain or two of salt. There are some generalizations that became that way for a reason, though.

I am quite pleased with my Nubians, noisy or not.

BTW, I love Wendell Berry's "The Peace of Wild Things."
