I had a grinder too and the enema worked. He was hunching so I was pretty sure he was constipated.

I hope she pulls through

I am at work. DH is home keeps "forcing" the bottle to her. I tubed her at 5:30am, and he thinks he has gotten a few ounces in around noon. He tried again at 2pm and she willingly took 2 ounces, he worked to get another ounce in. Very encouraging!

She pooped a bunch last night. It was not hard, but not soft. I have NO idea how to do an enema. Is there something that is causing this, or something I need to do to prevent? Her poo is normally on the firm side, but not usually too firm I thought..? But maybe too much for her..?

I really really thought she would not be with us this am she was really really pitiful last night. Legs cool and very limp. I even told Dh where to bury her. She could only stand if you proped her up. This morning when I went in (bathroom warm) she got up and greeted me, bumping for food. (still wouldn't take a bottle but had the thought of food at least.

So, what can I give her?

I gave her B complex and nutra-drench Sat. And a Biomyacin. Started tubing Sat pm.

I gave her probios and BoSe Sunday. I gave up tubing late Sunday afternoon. Honestly thought she would not make it, why torture her more.

How do I do an enema? How often? Even if she poops?

Any more shots of whatever?

Anything for discomfort?

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH for sticking with me and offering suggestions and support. It really does help.
Jean.

Jean, I'm not sure if she needs an enema since she is pooping, but we use a syringe with a little warm water and a touch of soap/dish detergent.

We call her Jazz. I am home now. She is still pitiful and does not want more than 2 oz at a time. But so much better than 24 hrs ago!
I still have no idea why or what to do.

Exclamation

poor little doll wants to play but is too weak. I will be up feeding tonight! ~

If anyone has ideas or suggestions as to what I can do besides feed her, I would really appreciate any and all advice.

Her temp is 103.3 I got nearly 4 ounces into her from a bottle. (midnight)
She is no longer grinding her teeth, but her breething seems a bit laboured and she is pitiful. She pees and poops.
Thanks,
Jean.

She might have some pneumonia? I don't know what would help though.. Penicillin maybe? I'm sure somebody else will know.. I've also read about giving them black coffee for the energy since she's weak.. Been following your adventure and pulling for you little girl too..

5:30 am, tubed her 4 ounces with a little nutradrench. All she does with the bottle is chew it, but some does go down that way. DH will have to do the bottle most of the day I am sure.
She will pee and poo when I stand her up, but she does not get up on her own. When I get her up, she will try to play, but falls a lot cause she is weak. Poor pretty baby.

how much does she actually weight? if she had too much milk at one time, milk will flow over in the underdeveloped rumen and can make her tummy hurt.
does she look round at her belly or does it look more sunken in?
how often do you tube her?

My baby came down with pneumonia 3 days ago, and it sounds a bit like this. He was foaming at the mouth, real lethargic, poop getting more solid, grunting, having trouble breathing.
He's all better now!!!
We Nutri-drenched like you are doing, I gave a little Bo-se, B vitamins, CD&T antitoxin because I was afraid it was entero like my buck had that died around Christmas), and started him on Nuflur. We also persisted with making him drink his milk.. almost did the tubing on him, but he never gave up eating, even if it was a little bit.
He will get a 3rd Nuflur shot today ... we tried to get banamine from the vet, because the poor thing was in a lot of pain while he breathed and we wanted to bring down any inflammation in his lungs... but he wouldn't supply it to us.

SOOOOooo... I gave him a pinch of a crushed horse bute tablet and he slept REALLY well last night.
Today... he's perfectly normal again!!! Talking/Playing/Jumping around again!!

I try for 4 ounces every 4 hours. DH might only get 2 ounces by bottle every 2 hours. I have not weighed her, but I have seen smaller. My poodle weight 10 pounds and Jazz is maybe half that??? (I estimate terribly, but dog gets weighed at the vet)
I have horse bute and banamine pastes. Should I give her some? I don't want her digestive to slow down and her to get more constipated. But she does seem uncomfortable.
You know, I wonder if she does not poo enough. She was so pitiful Sunday night, and I thought she would not make it. But Monday morning there were several bundles of poo in her box and she was so much better. (still pitiful and not taking bottle though.) Then Monday Dh worked with her getting milk from the bottle. But she seemed pitiful again whe I got home. And I have seen her go poo, but maybe it is not enough?? I wonder why. How much water do I use for an enema? Will thay dehydrate her?
I will try to see if I can get the vet to give me some advice over the phone, but I doubt it.
Should give her more Boimyacin even if she doesn't have a fever? Should I give her more B complex? More BoSe? I just feel lost. ~

Have you tried cutting an X in the nipple or tried various nipples? Some people do that when they have trouble bottle feeding. Also some people position the kid under their leg and tickle the base of the tail to simulate natural nursing.

If she's pooping normally she may not need an enema.

She was taking a bottle just fine and dandy from Saturday she was born until Friday afternoon.
I am not sure she is pooping enough normally? I have not counted poops before. Dumb I know. I know she goes, and I know she is uncomfortable. She seemed much better the morning I found several poops in her box. Coincidence????

Called vet. Says just keep her warm and fed.
~ not much help, but some reassurance, he didn't call me a dork.

It probably wouldn't hurt. A month or so ago Ozark Jewels gave a volume for giving enemas to small kids but I can't find it now.

I think you are doing fine.

UPDATE: Called vet back and talked to assistant, very nice and helpful! Said if baby doesn't eat enough she gets dehydrated, dehydrated leasd to constipation, discomfort means she doesn't want to eat.
Baby is going to work with me to be tubed every 4 hours. I am so tired already, So happy she is better, pitiful, but better.
I have certainly learned.
