Hi Cliff-
I was planning on having Pygora kids(yes they are goats) in eary to mid June but due to the complications of life it looks like you and I will have the same goat kidding schedule. I'm a bit worried about the heat cycles, too. It got a bit warmer this week-in the 20F. I could tell heat cycles on the dairy girls (3 Saanens) every time. But the Pygoras are SO subtle in their cycles compared to the dairy girls and, like you, working (I work a school year for Head Start) with some evenings meetings every month, I'm just not there to see it. So it's pasture breeding for me, too. I do have a larger Nigerian/Pygmy (one of the two grade does in there) that we were able to get a date on, but so far she is the only one. It really is frusterating isn't it! I'll be living in the barn all July!
My buck is a really cool guy. He did a good job last year with four does so he has proven himself. I also have two registered white Pygora's (I like the white for dyability) and an unregistered black. But then I found five registered Pygoras, some with nice color, and just had to take them home- funny how that happens . So the buck has more work to do.
I'll keep an eye out for your progress.
Fertility wishes to both of us!
