I'm not saying it doesnt' happen. but one incidence in someone you know is hardly evidence for a high infection rate inhumans. in fact it is evidence against it. being only one in all the people you know. unless you hardly know anyone that is ,in that case it is conceiveable that it could be used as evidence for a high rate just because it would other wise be a really bizarre coincidence that the only person you know has it.

saying so and so has it is nothing more than a scare tactic and has no statistical meaning.

I had rocky mountain spotted fever when I was a kid. that doesn't mean it is common to contract it! and I don't freak out if I find a tick.

I gotta get out of this thread. I find the hysteria and drama to be too frustrating.

to the op - taken prudent steps to avoid its spread if it turns out to be cl. and cross the bridges as get to them.

"the next question would be, how do i know the next place i'm moving to has had no animals with cl in the past???? "

That was sort of my point/question...if it is bad enough to move, surely it is bad enough to need to inform the new owners, and to expect to be informed by the old owners of any new property. Where do you draw the line?

i think nobody really knows how long the bacteria stays in the ground. if it is only a couple of months according to a vet from uc davis,, it is long enough to infect all animals in the same barn and pasture, but if kept away from the place for a year, animals should become safe again.

Okay I could not get a visit till tomorrow and now the puss is dried up. So what happens now? Do I wait for another abscess? How long should I wait to see if one comes? If it does come will it be in the same place or different? Or any other way to tell? Or does CL abscess go away like this so fast? Could it be since it is going away that it is not CL?

I'm in the NE corner of WA state, not all that far from the border. Last summer I called the "closest" feed stores north of the border and found one that stocks it and was going to go for a visit. I chickened out, though. I couldn't think of a place in a tiny car to "stash" the chilled contraband.

Maybe I just need to find myself a Canadian friend...
I should have just gone for it. I made some calls and, sure enough, Glanvac is no longer available in Canada.... lack of demand, according to one call. It's still available in Australia, not that I have an Aussie pal, but I'd be concerned about the weather. It's summer there, so the vial would need to be packed with a chilly-pac, but it's absolutely winter here and I'd be concerned about it freezing.

The guy at Colorado Serum said they are anticipating a summer release of their new made-for-goats CL vaccine.

I had spoken to someone at UC Davis and WSU regarding vaccinated goats testing "positive"... both said that vaccinated/negative and positive goats will both come back "positive". I neglected to ask if it was a titer test or what... probably should have.

Colorado Serum said that negative goats, vaccinated or not, will come back negative and that a goat that comes back positive, is... just may not have symptoms yet. I told him what the person at UC Davis said and was told that he was going to have someone from the Immunology Dept. call UC Davis and that he would get back to me. I'm wondering if Colorado Serum uses a titer test in their lab and Davis/WSU just use a +/- test?? I'll post an update when I have one.

It has been 8 days since the bump has been fully gone. How long should I keep her separated before deciding she doesn't have CL. I was going to get it tested but could not get a vet in time before it healed. It healed up very fast. I think because of all the cleaning we did. If another abscess occurs I will just test it myself because the vet takes to long to get her in.
