I'd go with the udder- when you see it full and somewhat shiney, then you'll have babies. Some does do not fill their udders until right before kidding though. And I'd give her udder a good wash before kidding begins.
My meat goats barely 'strut up' udders - they are meant to have small compact udders (to keep out of the yucky sticky brush) - so you never see the huge shiny! I usually go by the tail position ;-P

Ok thats really funny you said that because she usually carries her tail up and this afternoon she started letting it down.

Her bag doesnt scream ready but how fast can that change?
When you say close do you mean days, weeks? lol.
I have Nubian and Saanen and Boer. My Nubian does it. She is a rescue with a rough history so could have a lot to do with it. I give her a little more food and she fills back out. Likely days but it's hard to say.

Well I realzed the color was because it was drying, I caught a pic after she peed and the mucus is white. Her udder is the same this am as yesterday. But she has some dried mucus on her tail now. tail is back up this am. I am wondering, its cold and rainy today should I put up a pen around the goat house and keep her in that?So she will know where to kid or is it ok to let her wander the pasture ( 1&1/2 acres) still? Because I dont know when she is due I dont want to risk the kids being born in the cold damp weather. but I dont want to lock her up for another month either!
what to do? LOL!

I have noticed a dab of white mucous on and off for as much as a month or so before kidding. I think you could still have a few weeks.

This has been steady for the last 2 days and now there is more. She is also murrring softly and she walked so slow and ate slow when we went in the woods today, usually she is fast and furious eating like crazy. She also stopped to listen to every twig as the wind blew.
So can this also go on for weeks? Or should I be watching more closely?

Watch for amber colored goo, when it starts streaming, babies are imminent.

I have another Question...
Gretta is all of a sudden looking sunk in. I am not sure but have been told by an old goat man that thats the kids moving into position. Is this true? She turned into bones in the hind end. I did start her on the alfalfa and her reg goat ration( 16% med goat feed) . free choice hay, and pasture (with weeds and brush)
You can see it pretty clear in these pics. Any idea on whats going on?

Goats do drop when kidding time is near. The goat man is correct. I'd keep a close eye on her. Mine usually kid within a day or so once that happens. Is her udder filling up more today as well?

Not really any fuller and the draining stopped today.
So is that why she looks so sunk in and boney in the hind end?
