funny!

You guys crack me up! I told him what you all said and he just grinned and said, you may change your mind the first time you do any of that and you are sleeping with the goats. I told him they would probably keep me warmer than he does! LOLOLOLOL

Someone on the forum has one for me and I am getting it!!!!!!!

It will be here soon. I'll let you know how it goes. I'm expecting approximately 18 babies here very soon!

anyone need to buy a new baby?

Oh yes I agree with Reicheru about the code of getting out of bed!LOL

Melissa you said yo found one at odd lots? What is that? We have Big Lots here. Does anyone know if they make the camera that is wireless? I am about 200 feet away from the barn and there is no way I could do a cable that far.

(Don't follow my advice... I'm divorced so I can get a monitor if I want one!)
Best. Paul
OH you had me almost spit my water all over the place.

Repeat step 2 and 1 in reverse order when coming in.

HAHAHAHA ROFLMAO!!!

I had gotten it last year during the Thanksgiving sale. It is a Summer infant, I had gotten one for my sister in law because she was expecting and one for us because we were expecting four legged babies. I only paid 40.00 a piece. It works really well, and I can move the monitor from one pen to the next for who ever is close.

We used a cheap baby monitor last year and it worked well - there's no mistaking the sound of new kids! This year we bought a wireless security camera with audio (it came with 2 cameras) from Sportsman's Choice for $119. It plugs into the TV - has a 330 ft range. We don't have the cameras mounted yet, but did a dry run with it and it seems to be the ticket we needed. We've got 8 does kidding in 3 days the end of Feb - I don't want to miss anything!

That's the one we just bought and it's great - we're very satisfied with it - it comes with 2 cameras.

You can prevent chewing by running the cord through old garden hose, slit lengthwise.

I pick up baby monitors at rummage sales or, in a pinch, at Wal-Mart. The monitors and recievers seem to be compatible.

My monitor is on year 'round. I can hear does coming into heat, kids who have somehow gotten woven into the hay feeder, and the barking of adventurous dogs who will soon be sent on a new adventure.

Worth every penny.

You might be surprised how much noise goats can make at night.

But you'll know labor when you hear it.

I was very grateful for clear labor sounds from my three does that kidded for me last year. Two were VERY SURE they were READY. I did have some false alarms that made this newbie run out and check often, but when I heard the first yell from each of them, I KNEW. They were telling me, "MOM! NOW! GET OUT HERE! THEY'RE COMING!!!" lol I threw on my coat and ran out in my pjs just in time for each. One had the first one halfway out by the time I reached her, but the others were just beginning to show bubbles and they were PUSHING.

Can't wait for kidding to begin here in March!!!

well

I do have a question, which probably seems dumb, but I didn't have this happen last year, and here it is happening this year. My buck, who is HUGE will not stay in his pen and he wants to be in with the girls. I can't keep him in his own place. When my girls start having their babies, will they be safe around him? I don't want them getting hurt and I guess if I have to, I'll get rid of him, but if he won't hurt them, I'd kind of like to keep him for a while.

By the way folks, we are going to strongly consider getting rid of all of our goaties. I love them, but if you have read my post in the homesteading families/question forum area, my brother-in-law who is 73 has cancer. We just found this out. My husband is only 3 years younger than this brother-in-law, and I have decided that it probably is right for me to get rid of the animals and concentrate on my husband. He probably does not have that many years left with me. He is 70 and I am 50(soon to be). If I want animals later, I can get them, I won't get another husband. (Don't want to).

Anyway, so be watching for pictures of my goaties all for sale. I'd appreciate anyone on this forum taking them so I know they get good homes, but if they have to go to the sale, I guess that's the way it will be. After the babies are born, I'll start posting pictures so you all can see them.

Thanks for all your support too. I do have a baby monitor on its way to me today, so I'll get to participate in the babies being born this year.

You know, back when I was able to use the monitor, I did have a first freshener to kid silently. I was still grateful for the monitor, because my first clue was the sound of the newborn kid, and because that momma went right back to eating hay and just ignored the wet babies.

great thread

I just wanted to say thanks for the good information on the monitors. We kidded last month and I sure would have gotten a lot of use out of one. After reading this thread I am definitely investing in one. Thanks everyone!
