The goats are my daughters they are in 4-h. I am the goat leader. I bought so many does for them because there will be plenty to choose from to show. Not only that the other kids that are in goats have the option of buying their wethers from my daughter and when the showing is done she will buy the animal back so they are not stuck with their projects. I have found that with the program more kids are interested in showing goats, and their parents are more ok with it, because they dont have the hassle of getting rid of the goat themselves. If it were not for them I would not have as many goats.

Well, you will get a ton of good ideas here! I would suggest you start a new thread with your questions. "new to goats with questions" or something like that. That way more people will look at it
I'm not experienced with milking goats...but you should probably get 2 goats because they are happier with a buddy. You will love having them, they are so much fun with lots of personality. If you have good fencing the problems your hubby is worried about shouldn't happen...
