I think the grain Pam is speaking of is Heifer Developer, which is a pelleted dairy cow feed. I haven't found out what its ingredients are but still searching.

Pam, what is the name of the grain Prince is getting? We need to find out how much of what is in it. IF it is indeed to rich for his debilitated system he can just eat leaves and grass for now. You can slowly add it back later in a few months.
I know you want to do right by your animals but sometimes its too much. This is whats known as killing them with kindness. Most times just small simple things work the best.
Even if the "grain" is OK for him he does not need it free choice. He only needs a 1/2 cup or so in the morning and in the evening. This is plenty for his size and gender. Males do not need as much as females in this case.

Yes, grain is no substitute for farage/hay. You should be able to buy one bale from the feed store to give him, or as mentioned, cut fresh for him, if you have to!

He has starting eating VERY well! He is eating about a pound of leaves a day along with his yogurt! I keep offering every now and then and he keeps taking more so hopefully he keeps it up!

Your kinda right it is Heifer Developer however mine is not pelleted they also call it beef 13. My has cracked corn and minerals. They make it there. It's in their feed bags which means they do. That is what he recommend because of the protein level and other things. He said they also put in more minerals than TSC does in their feed.

Corn is very hard on a babies tummy. I would definitely stop that for now. It sounds like hes on the road to recovery. Congratulations and keep up the good work.

Our does eat a high leaf diet, too. Browse (leaves, twigs, weeds) is a goat's natural diet.

My doe and baby buckling love leaves. They would eat leaves all day if it was possible. Until the rain stops and we get the fence up I have to cut branches for them. When they have eaten all the leaves I remove the branches and toss in some more. The baby is a little smaller than he should be but then most bottle babies are. As long as hes healthy I don't worry so much about how big he is, he will catch up when its time.

I meant is the heifer developer good for the grown does? I would cut down branches but we have 3 acres of land and someone like to hunt and he says my goats scare his deer away. So he likes the branches there as he feels the deer won't get as spooked. So I have been pulling the leaves off one by one that will happen anyways come fall. He is not happy about it but what can you do? Also by next month whats the difference? They are in my goats belly and we didn't have to rake them up. Sounds goods to me.I know dry leaves aren't as good for them as freshest is bestest but would it hurt to put a mound of dry leaves in there while I am gone in case they get hungry? Would that help keep him fuller? I am not sure wether or not he would eat them.

My son rakes his oak leaves and saves them for our goats in big paper sacks. Our goats eat them like potato chips all winter.
Who is this person who is telling you what to do with your own trees????
Trim the blessed trees where they are hanging down and be done with it.
We also drive down the country roads and cut oak, pecan, hickory, and walnut branches where they are growing out over the road. The county would cut them later anyway to keep them from hitting the school bus, so they don't care.

Will he let you lead him? We only have a small fenced pen for our goats, but I take them on daily walks with me through the woods. Now they are accustomed enough to it that I don't have them on a lead, they just stay with me. They'll pick grass in the yard, then venture up on the hill for a while. I let them out anywhere from 1-3 hours a day, and supplement with hay accordingly. It's easier than cutting browse for them, and that way they can get what they want.
What about alfalfa pellets? I would think that would be better than the grain.

He is taming up on walking with you on a leash. It might be an idea. We are about to get a huge pen built with tons of trees and weeds. So it is only a problem so long as he is in this pen. I was wondering if you all would have suggestions for this or what I could do. Prince and my buck Buck are in a little pen together. Buck has recently become the biggest jerk in the world but very friendly to me. He is very jealous of Prince and the special care he has been receiving. So he has been eating Prince's hair and now Prince has a lot of pink where the skin can be seen and he is very cold and in the morning it is 40. Prince is a highly social goat whereas the other could cares less and seems to hate other goats. Well Prince has been crying and crying when I go and he used to be fine when Buck was nice but it doesn't surprise me because he is not much of a friend to him. So would a goat coat help to keep him warm and so his fur won't get picked at. I feel bad for the little guy. Buck was biting his ears well that has a simple solution bite him on the ear and he stopped. But what do you do shave him bald ? So he can be cold and see how it is hehe?

Well, I would get them in seperate pens. If he's picking at Prince now, it's just going to escalate to butting and other bad behavior and I'd worry that the smaller goat could be really hurt if he's not big enough to defend himself, especially when he's already weak from being sick. He's not going to be able to rest, eat and get better if he's afraid of being beat up all the time. The stress alone is bad for his system.

Have you tried Abell for hay? Or DeVane? Even Grays sells it in square bales. Abel is in Pisgah, DeVane is in Marbury and, well, I'm sure you know where Grays is. You can't turn around in this county without finding someone selling hay.
There's a place out on Estevez? Rd (off Rte 6, between LaPlata and Gilbert Run) - always has a sign out on Rte 6, nice chap, can't remember his name, good hay.
If you don't like any of those, check the notice board at Southern States in Charlotte Hall - I saw 4 hay sellers on there last time I checked (that is 4 that I didn't already know).

Now that you have some places in your area where you can get hay, I hope that it's on your "to-do" list.....today.

That depends on wether or not you can physically get there. We have no car to drive today but will get some tomorrow since we will have the car to wash clothes and do errands.

hay streacher pellets and alfalfa pellets would be a better feed for him than
what you are feeding him. he doesn't need all the junk. Blue seal makes a meat goat food that has amoniume clorid(sp) and cocci med that my bucks (only when in rut or growing boy's)and babies do great on.
He should be eating very little grain, most of his deit should be roughage...hay in some form, browse..ect.
As for the big buck, they can be mean in rutt!!! the little guy will not stand a chance! If he's a wether but him in with the girls, if not alone would be safer.
