I did not take his temperature. I have a sick cat a no one to remind this animal needs that that animal needs that remember you still have to do this. I am trying so hard to get to everything. Goat is up roaming around not staring off in space anymore. Looking perky! I have some from when he was little but that's it. I would gladly take pics but the charger to the camera is missing and it has no battery left . Thanks TennesseMama23 so I am doing pretty good getting yogurt in him!

Oh he is just adorable, thank you for posting them. He looks my my doe but she is only part Saanen and only weighs 45lbs at almost 6 months. In these pictures he looks very healthy. I see tree leaves behind the pen. Does he have ANY access to these leaves? Can you carry some to him? The leaves would be good for him as long as there are no stone fruit trees. If hes not used to eating them you will need to give them in moderation so he doesn't get bloated.

Is he eating better now and are you still giving the meds daily? Keep giving the B-Complex daily and it will help keep his appitite up.

He is eating some. I am giving his meds daily. He is perky but still not there yet. I give them leaves all the time! They love them so much! Since we live in a very wooded area there are always tons of leaves so healthy and fills them up well! I noticed his fur has gone down hill. Is it because he is older now or is it because he is not healthy or something else? It just not as soft as it use to be. As you can tell in the pics he was a cuddly soft fluffy guy.

The fur problem could be becuse hes been sick but more likely due to a lack of minerals. What does he get for his minerals? Does he get a loose mineral or a block? Blocks are too hard on a goats tongue and they don't get what they need. They need a mineral with high copper content.

How much loose mineral do they need or should consume? I checked out loose minerals at the feed mill and they were like $36 a bag. Was he maybe misunderstanding or are they really $36? He said he could make a small bag. But I did not know how much they consume to know wether or not to just go ahead and get a whole bag.

It should be fed free choice. I paid $26.00 for MasterGain 12-6 50# bag. It has 3,000ppm copper in it. I expect it to last a long time with 3 mini goats. I have about 3 cups in a feeder at all times and have to add about 1 cup to it every 2-3 days.

So it's not something that I can't afford. I have been looking into it. I put my goats on a mineral block till I could decide. So they would be getting some rather than none. I just checked it out as I just figured out the mineral things not that long ago. I have 4 Grown goats and 3 7 month and younger. So it would go fast but not so fast that I would not be able to handle the cost. If it was I was planning on trying to hammer down the block in small peices. But that seems hard and a waste of precious time. Oh lol you must forgive me my "hen" has started crowing this morning hehe! I guess it's off to freezer camp for him. We have been watching it and it just would not crow. I said it IS a rooster regardless of it not crowing. They were like maybe it is a dominant hen. I kinda refused to believe so. Anyhow he has doomed himself in today!

CookingPam, Another issue with the block mineral (even if you pulverize it) is that it contains a lot of salt and little copper and other needed minerals. Goats will eat the block only until their salt need is met and long before their mineral need is met.

I had difficulty finding high-level-copper loose minerals - you might also. Minelson's MasterGain has 3,000ppm (parts per million). That's great.

After a few weeks of good minerals, one can notice a difference in goats' hair color, shine and thickness. They appear more healthy.

Thanks for the help! I did not know that! My feed mill often tries to carry the best of everything we often hear we got this brand instead because it has higher_____ you fill in the blank protein minerals vitamins etc. And somehow they keep there prices lower to. But I will check and make sure it is the right stuff. If it's not I may just suggest it to him and he will probably get it on the shelf as soon as possible if he agrees. He wants the best for his costumers and truly cares. He does not just try to sell a product.

How much is he eating each day? and what is it? Can you give us the approximate amounts?

Just keep working with him. Give him yogurt several times a day. The bacterial cultures are good for his gut and the substance will help. Offer him hay free choice. Give him all the leaves he can eat. Make sure he gets a lot of water. If he won't drink add a little koolaide to it. He needs the minerals though. I have 2 goats and I add a 1/2 tsp to their feed daily so I know they are getting it. Mine get Sweetlix and I never find a grain of it left in the bottom of the bowl.

If you were closer I would give you some of our minerals. A bag lasts a long time so the cost would be spread out over a while. Maybe your feed store will give you part of a broken bag. Just a few pounds will get your goats on the way to good health.

What is the name of the wormer you are using?

He has grain available till we can get hay. Everyone is out of hay I am also feeding him leaves. He will only eat 1 leaf at a time. I have him eating 48cc yogurt. I plan to try to increase it a little everyday. Like 6cc more everyday. I am using Ivomec (ivermectin) Injection for Cattle and Swine 1% Sterile Solution. Typed it off package. Works for all my other goats. Snow will stop eating and such if she is not properly dewormed with the right stuff and I have not had any problems out of her in months.

Does he have access to grass. Even grass is better than nothing if hay is not availiable even if you have to cut it by hand. Pile the leaves up where he can get to them. He will eat them when he wants them. Mine eat more dried leaves than the fresh ones. Offer him baking soda free choice in case gets a tummy upset with the fresh greens. I would not up the yogurt any further than what it is now.

Stop the grain!

Cut grass by hand if you have to but pull the grain. Cut some branches with leaves for him or something Grain is too rich for him now.

Can you start him back on a bottle of whole cows milk? That would be my choice over grain.

Pam, our goats LOVE oak leaves. Yup, even the big goats eat one leaf at at time, but they keep eating. Look for oak trees with branches that you can trim for him.
