PenG is a penicillin antibiotic.

Keep up the Sulmet. Maybe you can save him.

Even though you think hes stressed from being with the buck, hes not, hes stressed from being ill for so long, ALL goats are social . He will be picked on by other goats until he establishes his place in the herd. For any buck to be a good herd sire he must be taken care of properly while young. IF you get this little guy healthy he can still breed the does but he has to be healthy first. It is imperative you follow the advice you have been given. If there is something you don't understand just ask. We will explain it to you until you understand. Right now the important thing is to get Prince healthy, wether he grows or not is secondary. We will cross that bridge when we come to it.

Yes it does. Follow the directions given in the post above. They can get a damaged gut from cocci and never have diarrhea so unless you get a fecal check done you can't tell until it's too late.

Make sure that you keep the bacteria in his rumen going strong by giving him probios or active culture yogurt.

If he makes it he could still pass on his genetics. That doesn't change.

What is his temperature? If all you have is a human thermometer use it and just clean it well with rubbing alcohol before you put it back in the medicine cabinet.

Thanks for all the wonderful help. Yes all that is important is getting him healthy I 100% agree. He won't eat yogurt I already tried . I am hoping the B Complex will boost his appetite and then I will give it a shot. He is perking up!

Put yogurt in a teaspoon.

Stand with one of your legs on each side of his shoulders. Squeeze.

Pry his mouth open with one hand.

Spoon yogurt in with the other.

Hold his mouth closed and nose up while he swallows.

Repeat two more times.

Some of it will get down the throat, even if he spits some out. Same theory as feeding a baby her first rice cereal. Keep scooping and spooning. Some comes out, and some goes down.

The only other thing I would add is if you have a syringe, you can fill it with the yogurt and stick it in the side of his mouth and aim toward the back of the mouth. Since they don't have upper teeth there it is a little easier to force feed them when they insist on keeping their mouths shut and then it works to your advantage. You just continue to hold their mouths shut during and afterwards and usually you get the majority of the yogurt down. Hope he gets better soon.

Thank you SO SO MUCH! I have been trying to cram and cram yogurt down his throat! Such a simple solution! I just got 24 cc down him. Hom much yogurt in teaspoons that is I am not sure. So how many ccs do I need to give if I am syringing him yogurt? He found that such a treat after all the shots and meds poor guy. He did not like the fact that it was syringed but certainly got the taste out of his mouth.

I don't remember the cc to tsp. thing, sorry. But just use a tsp. measurer and squirt from your syringe(full) and measure what it took to fill up the tsp. and then you can let me know too. LOL

Keep giving him the yogurt because the antibiotics will kill off the bacteria in his gut. I know it sounds bad but the antibiotics are necessary. Keep giving him the B-Complex also. Keep giving him the Sulmet and do not miss a day for the entire 5 days.

Have you taken his temperature yet? Is it staying down? Do you have any pictures of this little guy?
