No, you need to lute her. If she is bred she will abort and be fine. If she comes into heat then your lucky she wasn't bred... But keep her away from the buck

Thaiblue, there was some discussion on another forum that it may be safer to wait a bit longer to lute as sometimes it may not work that soon after being bred. That could possibly be what happened to you.

Dragonchick, I do not think she looks very fat. She does look like a very tiny start of a bag, but some does do have this development without being bred. I would go with the sending blood to pregnancy test idea. Then if she is pregnant lute her.

That doe does NOT look pregnant to me, I have BoerX doe lings that are fat and they all have a pooch where the udder is and it is just FAT. Please do not give drugs as powerful as Lute with out a Vet. consultation.

I also agree that this doe does NOT look pregnant. She is 4 months old? Could get pregnant at 3 months of age? Showing udder growth due to pregnancy at 1 month gestation? Not likely. Please proceed carefully.

This little goat does not look fat. My guess is that she's a Boer crossed with either a Saanen or Alpine. They tend to be a bit heftier than a pure dairy doe because of being part meat goat. The first thing I'd do is blood test her to determine if she's pregnant. Biotracking doesn't charge much to run the test. If she is bred, then lute her. If she's only 4 months old, she shouldn't be showing yet, and I hate to give any unnecessary drugs.

Andi - she's good looking! I don't know what to tell you about the pregnancy question! We have does making a bag one day and then nothing the next. One thing we've learned in the last year is that goats keep you guessing all the time! Jacob's gonna be so "stinking happy" to have a girlfriend! Nice choice of matchmaking - I can't wait to see their kids.

I checked her belly this morning and bounced her. Its soft and squishy, not hard at all. Not even slightly hard. Her belly is also much smaller than it was yesterday. She allowed me, albeit somewhat reluctantly, to check her udder, it didn't feel like there was anything in it. It sorta felt like an almost deflated balloon. I will do the blood test from Bio-Tracking and make sure. I can draw blood so that shouldn't be a problem. How much blood is needed, a couple cc's or a full tube?
Pickles a sweet little girl who just needs some attention. DH will get the stanchion together tonight or in the morning and I will get her feet done. They need to be attended to before they get out of hand. Pickles did not like the cocci meds and that was somewhat of a battle to get them down, even with the cherry syrup. The move doesn't seem to have affected her much. She pees and poops normally and eats out of my hand. I would like to have her a little tamer before I let her loose in the pen. Right now she only gets out of the goat house while on her lead. I let her out several times a day to browse on the trees and weeds. Jacob will go out with her when she gets out of quarantine. She should be a little bigger by then as she will have had good food and minerals of which shes never had.
Wish me luck on the blood test. Too bad you can't just use one of those urine tests from the store. This would be so much easier.
Andi

I don't know where anyone would get the idea this goat is fat.
You don't look at bellies for goats weight condition...you look at the bones!
Look at the ribs, hips, shoulders. This goat is not fat. She looks just right.

We have Saanens, we have Boers. I'm going to guess Saanen/Boer, 50% of each.
I wouldn't lutelyse this doe. It can mess up their reproductive system. Lutelyse has its' place, no doubt, but it is highly unlikely that she is bred. If she is, and bred at 3 months of age, kind of early to have an udder. However, if she comes from a good milking line (the Saanen doe) she could just have a precocious udder.
Finally, we had a doe (Boer X) get bred at 4 months of age. She kidded with a beautiful and big Boer buckling at 9 months of age. She is still a nice productive doe at 4 years of age. Your doe can deliver a kid at 8-9 months of age. Don't feed too much grain, so that the kid/kids don't grow too big, and if she really is bred, she will be fine.

Her small udder is how my 4 month doeling is. Mine has longer fatter teats a little more bag. I know for certian she is not pregnant. So I'm thinking you just have a healthy girl! She looks like she would be part or whole Saanen to me. Then again I am not that great about being able to tell.

I do not think she is bred. If in doubt pull blood and send it to bio tracking to be tested. yes or no answer and cheaper and more accurate than an ultrasound.
I would also give this girl a round of coccidia meds and a bo-se injection.
