He really hates that wormer! This stuff is blue & smells like alcohol. I tasted some to check it out. Stings but only briefly. Very oily. Only got about 3ccs in him. Should we try again?

Yes you have to give the correct dosage. Is this Eprinex cattle pouron? The dosage on it is 1cc per 22 pounds and you give it orally. Do you have any idea how much your guy weighs? Vicki

The hair loss right after the lice treatment has me thinking it's involved. Could you wash him down? That would help cool him too although if you are are hot and muggy as we are 104.7 probably isn't out of line.

Good luck!

Iggy's doing a little better! Knock wood. Got more Ivomec in him yesterday & lots of aspirin.

Daughter was looking up the hair loss thing as well. She thinks vitamin deficiency? Either A or Zinc?
On his back and sides were doing left side with hydrocortisone cream & right side with tea tree oil to see what does what. Vet will be back tomorrow.

Still wondering about Kick Start electrolytes for him. Concerned that it has some animal products in it. Anybody used this for goats?

Thanks for the kick start info. Will mix some up yet today. His general health seems to be better. Eating more, even a little playing with Stella. Temp at 103.2. A bit high, but better. Breathing much improved but not quite normal. Vet here again today. He's still at a loss about the hair falling out, (which it continues to do). All he can come up with is Cushings (but the goats eyes aren't bulging) or rain scald that horses get? He's never shut out of his building when it's raining, we leave the door open so he can get out of the weather. Thanks for all your help. Will keep you posted.

I hope he continues to improve for you. If the skin condition is like rain rot that horses get then it's a fungus...which can be treated with Monistat or any other womens yeast infection medication..I still wonder though why it would happen right after the flea treatment...hmmmm

As an FYI, Cushing's disease is actually hyperadrenocorticism, not hypothyroidism. The adrenal glands overproduce a steroid hormone (cortisol - aka, the "stress hormone"), which can then lead to all sorts of issues. I haven't seen it in goats myself, but it's fairly common in dogs and horses.

Another FYI - there are many places online to get accurate info on dosages and diseases. Merck puts their vet manual online at www.merckvetmanual.com. There are also med dosages at www.fiascofarm.com. Go online when your goats are not sick and print some of this info out so you have it when you need it, or buy yourself a copy of Merck's vet manual. If you're going to do your own vet work - and I'm not saying you shouldn't, most of us do - then you need to educate yourself a bit. Although there is certainly a wealth of information on this forum, coming here in a panic to get an ivermectin dose when your goat is sick isn't the best way to handle the situation. There is a ton of information available here and other places, and if you're going to keep animals you really should learn to handle common problems before they crop up.

I'm not trying to be mean or unsympathetic, and I hope it doesn't come across that way. I'm simply trying to encourage everyone to learn as much as they can before the crisis hits - and you know it's gonna hit at some point. The best time to learn how to give injections, calculate mg/kg, or figure out what meds to use for ___ is NOT at 3am in the dark with a down animal.

I hope your goat does well.
