Congrats!

(The goat in the second pic is almost identical to my newest buckling, too!)

The combo - two does and a buckling. Simply because I was wanting a companion wether for the herd sire. I had a back up wether in case of all does, and was really hoping not to have more than one buckling, because I figured it would be easier on my children if we didn't have to get rid of any of their first kids.

My little guy is bouncing all over the place - poor little fellow really could use a playmate.

Fun. We are expecting our first 'litter' of ND's this Fall. Well, she was bred so we're hoping.

Anyone know if you can tell pregnancy earlier on an ND because of their size? Ours should be about two months along.

I don't think you can tell. I just sold a ND and did not know she was pregnant. (An accidental breeding ) Any how. Before the woman could pick the doe up I noticed the signs and sighed. The doe had a single, yes a doeling of all things, about a month later. Grrr.

I'm glad I sold her to a family friend just up the street. I get to see her quite often. VERY cute kid.

Congrats! I'm sure you are VERY excited!

I am strictly breeding Alpines now. I have four does to breed this fall. Three of which will be FF. Oh I can not wait!!!!

Have fun!

I'm afraid that the only way may be a test. If you can draw, or know someone who can, you could send the to a lab and it is SO MUCH CHEAPER than a vets office. Maybe someone has an old wive's tale way of figuring it out

Here is a tale...... After breeding, you wait for two months. When you are not sure if they are preg or not, wait three more months if they pop out kids...guess what? They were preg. Yup. That's my method. Hee hee. Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

Other than sending in a blood sample for preg testing at a lab, I know no other way to tell at two months. Farther along in the preg you can feel right in front of where the foreudder is and a little to the goat's right. If far enough along in the preg, you can feel the kids moving. Sometimes movement is just the rumen rumbling. But once you get the hang of what the kids feel like you can tell. (But not at two months unless you have xray vision. Sorry.)

A while back we had a thread about using a stethoscope to listen for heartbeats of the kids.

We discussed trying to count the heartbeats to see if we could predict how many kids were in there. I don't remember if any of us actually tried it and posted the results or not, but if you have a stethoscope handy you might try listening for heartbeats.

Let us know if you do it and if it works. Does anyone know when the heartbeats are distinguishable? I always forget to try it until after the kids are born so I have no idea if it would work or not.

Thanks Catbird, Yeah I think they're pretty cute. I guess it's good I haven't seen them or it would be alot harder to sell them.
