Jeffers has a mini strainer for under $20.

Currently, I milk into a pail with muslin over the top and rubber banded. Inside, is a glass of frozen ice to quick chill. When that comes into the house, I strain with a dairy strainer and into the fridge it goes.

I found some 12" filters from Hamby Dairy Supply. I have 2 half moon buckets. The filter sits under the lid and the lid fits on tight (really tight on my Hoegger bucket). My other bucket is my compost bucket with lid from Lee Valley that my dh cut the moon out of with a torch or something. That lid fits just snuggly with the filter on it (the lid is very loose without the filter). There is still a little dripping like there would be with anything that hangs over the bucket, but I'd rather have cleaner milk than a spotless stand. (that is minimized by pushing down the filter and making a well to milk into)

I feel like my milk is much cleaner doing it like I am doing. I don't like the idea of reusing anything that will harbor bacteria. I usually filter it again when I get it to the house, but I don't think it is really that important to do.

I also like their 6 inch filters, they will just lay in my small strainer or funnel, or my mesh metal strainer I got from wm- no screwing it in or anything.

I use a 250ml canning funnel. It is 3 peices (funnel part, ss screen, screw on bottom.) All I did was cut a milk filter to size and screw on the bottom.

I milk into a ss bucket, then strain the milk and off to cool it goes.
