Finally, I hope this picture is bigger although I don't think it's as clear. It is looking a little better but still not cleared up. I would almost bet my life it's not urine burn, so maybe it is mites. My goats have never had those to my knowledge at least not where I noticed any problems so any sugestions on what you do will be real helpful.
What about the white dust people dust the goats with? Wouldn't the vicks burn the area? Also not sure how much or which ivermectin to use for injecting like susanne said?

yes, mites.
do you have a microscope? you can put a little scale under and look it up. there are three different kind of mites. all three can be treated with ivermectin injectable. you need to treat twice in three weeks interval.

No, I don't have a microscope. Do you have to use the ivermectin that says injectable on it or I have the Ivermectin drench. I hadn't wormed my boys since Jan. so I wanted to make sure it wasn't worms so I gave him a double dose of Ivermectin drench, also the wether in with him even though he no signs of anything.

It won't matter that I gave him an oral dosre the other day? How much per dose?
Anything else you'd suggest?

you might want to become a member of the michigan goat group. they had a discussion about treatment for external parasite.

I have horses too, so when my doe got mites on her ears, I used their deworming paste (ivermectin) and rubbed it on her ears and then gave her a good dose as well. The paste stayed on for a while and it worked out good.

Hi there. We once had a goat with mites and the treatment was to give Ivermectin, 1cc/50# orally, once a week for 6 consecutive wks. It worked like a charm...cleared it right up!! We were told to quarantine the animal b/c it is contagious. I thought I would also mention....if your goat is biting at his legs b/c of lice infestation, that can also cause bad sores on the legs. I know our goats were going through some bad lice problems, being at the end of the winter and everything. We went through and squirted them with Cylence for that. We use 2 cc's down the back and neck and use a syringe without the needle. Then we do it again in three wks to catch all the newly hatched lice. Last winter, we let live get out of hand and we had a couple of goats get sores and hair loss on their legs. BTW, I wouldn't use Vick's or Tea Tree Oil. Vick's would be awful to get into their eyes. Tea Tree Oil is actually very toxic if ingested. Good luck to you in getting it cleared up!!

Thanks, starsmom & Milk & honey, I do also have the Ivermectin paste I can try that & I have dusted both my boys also for lice. The wether in with him show's no signs of anything & I haven't seen the buck chewing on his legs(doesn't mean he isn't when I'm not there) it is on the back of his back 2 legs below the knee joint. I have been using the MTG daily & had given him the double dose(orally) of the Ivermectin before susanne said to use injectable kind & today it does look much better, like it's drying up. It has been such a long winter & now such wet weather here so maybe that has something to do with it, never had this problem before or with lice either & haven't got any new goats.

At my vet's yesterday (appt. for dogs) I asked the vet tech since the vet wasn't in about what to use for mites on the goats & she told me GOATS DON'T GET MITES! I kept saying mites & the girls in the office kept saying NO, it must be lice. Anyways I just let it go, knowing I believe everyone here over the girls there since they don't really see goat's much unless they are mine.
