If your little one is still alive, go get some Re-Sorb and give it a try. Comes in a packet, you mix the two parts together. Worth a shot.

I sell alot of bucks to folks who don't 'keep' bucks for the reason you state. They use the buckling in the fall, the next month blood test to confirm pregnancy then sell or eat the buck. No buck to feed, no buck for your children to be around, no smell, and a clean pen for a new one to go into the next spring.

First off getting the buck back from your friend that you are sharing, what if she has a doe in heat, what if he dies, what if she changes her mind, what if you go over for a visit and find that she has CL. Whose paying for the feed? Who is paying for the vet bills? If the buckling is nice than keep him, raise him yourself so he is easy to handle, not a job for kids who play with baby bucks and ruin them.

Sorry about the doeling. Vicki

The doeling is gone - I called the vet who came and put her down. We cried together. I love my vet.

He checked her over quite well - I think he was highly motivated to find a reason to save her. She had only 2 oz to eat in the last 36 hours. The longer she went without food the perkier she got - to a point. She could never stand and hold her head up in the last 5 days, never once acted hungry, licked her lips, head butted, or tail wagged. Very very rarely made a sound.

The vet said he thought she was blind and had dim dim reflexes. That she should have been emptied out in the 36 hours but that her stomach was tight and full. I had been force feeding her 30-40 oz a day - she gained 1 lb in 2.5 days for me - and the more I fed her the closer to death. I gave up yesterday when I fed her the 2 oz and she acted like was going into a coma - dim, dim eyes, splayed flat on the ground, urinating all over herself, eyes not open and not yet closed, no muscle tone, no response but breathing. I thought she'd 'slip away' by night - but the longer since that feeding the perkier she got. I had seen her urinate and poop what seemed normally right in front of me/on me on a daily basis.

We had given her Bo-Se & VIt B complex SQ 5 days ago and no improvement.

I'm glad she's free. We'll have a family burial for her tomorrow.

thanks everyone!
Cathy

Cathy, so sorry for your loss Poor little thing just didn't have it in her to survive. You sound like a good loving goat mommy and did everything you could. Your Vet sounds awesome. The little one is free now which is a good thing. It's so nice that you are having a burial for her and for you and your family. Take care.....
