Susanne is just trying to get at some of the reasons that auction kids may not have a very good chance from the beginning. Sometimes they never got colostrum; sometimes they get chilled and get a cold, etc. We donated a ram lamb to a neighbor who wanted to get started with livestock. He put the newly weaned Shetland ram lamb in a calf hutch, made for Holstien calves, on just grass, out in the pasture, in March. No heat lamp, no bedding, no mama to keep him warm. When I went over to see the lamb, I questioned the set-up, and asked him if maybe the lamb wouldn't get chilled as it was getting in the 30's at night. "Oh, I think it toughens them up" was his reply. A few days afterward he called to say the lamb had died. Probably pneumonia.
Not too hard to figure out. It was just his lack of experience with sheep, but still, it made me pretty sad. Later I figured out that I should have tried to get him to understand that the housing he'd provided would be the same as leaving a month-old infant alone in an unheated house in March. But hindsight is always 20-20.
No one is accusing you of mistreatment, you loved the little one, it just may be that this is a (painful) learning experience, and hopefully the next experience will be very positive. Don't give up!

robyrich, You have a heart as big as a house! Molly was blessed that she got to learn about love by coming to live with you...even if just a short time. And you were blessed to have spent that little time getting love and affection from her. It's so hard when we loose our little ones because we feel so responsible for their wellbeing. What I learned about you, in this short time, is that you rescued a poor baby and gave her a loving home with good care. You fed her, loved her, made sure she had clean water and shelter. You even took pictures of her. I know you miss her and just feel terrible about her dying. It was sudden and unexpected. But maybe she did have something else going on and she didn't want to put you through a long hopeless ordeal...because she knew that would break your heart even worse. This way you never had to see her suffer. I sure hope you get another little one...you are an AWESOME goat Mommy! Plus I would really like to see you posting more on this forum. Take care.......hugs...

I think that sums it up pretty well! Take what you learned from this experience, and put it towards raising another goat. And never, never stop asking questions! Life with goats is hard, but wonderful, too!
