This is so distressing...you must just feel so helpless and my heart goes out to you. I don't know what else to say Gosh I hope they are ok and we get a good ending to this.

Hope your hubby has some rock salt loads in the shotgun or snake charmer.

Actually I hope the moms have just hidden them, but ...

As for people, this is the weekend to have goat. Many Greeks and Italians prefer them to lamb for Easter.

I was thinking that, also. That Easter is coming. I don't suppose your gates are locked? It would be very easy to just walk in and take them, if not.

We have to lock gates around here as we are on a dead end road and sometimes people come down here. Perhaps they're just lost or nosy.....or maybe looking for a quiet homestead to steal from, "casing the place" so to speak. I always do my best to make them aware that I've seen them. Our farm is on the outskirts of a village that is known for a lot of five-finger front yard discounts.

I'm sorry about your loss, and hope you find them or find out what happened to them. I think not knowing is the worst. Good Luck.

we used to have this happen every spring at our last property. The kids would scamper out with their mom's to browse, and lay down to nap. The moms would return to the barn and maybe do a moo or two. The kids would never cry, never say a word. Even when we would find them. We would usually find them safe under one bridge. You just have to keep looking for them hidden somewhere.

I hope you find them soon.

Gracy I know how you feel right now as I lost a pregnate doe last month under the same circumstances. No blood, fur or hoof prints. I hope you have a better outcome then me. I haven't found mine yet. If nothing is found this morning then make sure to file a report with the local police as they will help in the search possibly of known neighbors and if there have been strange things in the area. Everyone needs to be causous this time of year.We now have locks everywhere and customers can only pick up milk when we are home, have lost some people due to this but thats the way its going to stay. My prays and thoughts are with you today. Hoping for good news.

Definitely contact your police or sheriffs dept to report them missing. If they wandered off and wound up on someones property and they call to report finding them, then you can be matched up. Believe me it happens. We had all of our bucks disappear in a matter of minutes. After searching every where and could not find them I called the sheriffs dept. About 8-10 hours later I got a call, they were found and I retrieved them, they had wandered 10 miles away!!!

I sure hope you found them happy and proud to have caused such a commotion with their treachery, but I'm kind of leaning toward human nature myself. I saw this yesterday and before I even read it I thought that, but tried to keep a very hopeful positive about it.

I am fine. Still no sign of the kids. It has been over 30 hours now. I know the mom's are miserable from the milk bagging up but they are Boers and not use to being milked so I am going to assume it will be like weaning the kids off of the mom's and they will eventually dry up. Thanks for all of the help and ideas. Sorry it did not turn out the way we all hoped... .. that they were just hiding.

Gracy, SOOO sorry that you did not find the kids. Hugs.
You may want to milk the does a little to relieve the pressure. I tried not milking one of ours and it was horrid! Just milk out about half each time and they will adjust down slowly, it is much better that way. poor mamas (you included of course.)

Gracy, I am so sorry. I was really hoping to see that you found them.

I will say that they are small enough for a hawk. I have seen it done before. In a way I really hope that was the case, because I would hate to know it was some human that did it.

i am so so sorry gracie i just could not believe that foul play could have been involved.

You may want to check on those mamas' udders, milk out some to relieve the pressure so they don't get an infection.

Great Horned Owl

If there is a way a big owl can get in there they may have taken them. Great Horned Owls will hunt in family units and are large enough to take a small goat or lamb. This doesn't happen very often, but it can. When I was a lil' boy I watched a family of owls haul off two of my grandpa's lambs. Kinda a freaky to see.
Just a thought.

With all the rain and stuff, could someone have taken them thinking they were 'saving' them?
