Baby buck

Yeah! That was easy.

Went down to the barn to milk and there was Luna standing there with a not so little Kinder buckling. I thought there must be more b/c she was and still is HUGE! But he's all dry and she's walking around like nothing happened. I looked around in the pen and couldn't find any evidence of anything. I bounced her and didn't feel anything else. I assume the cats ate the afterbirth--they usually do pretty fast. I watched her the whole time we were down there and she seemed fine. She ate dinner like all was normal. The buck seems strong and nursed, too. But I can't believe there was only ONE.

The smaller Kinder had triplets and my 8 year old, big as a house Kinder had a single. I sure hope she was done cause I'm not walking back down there again. It's still snowing like crazy! She's got to be done, right? Acting like that after an hour?

I'm a new mom too....my little girl Alpine joined us this afternoon. She's beautiful and she's staying in the laundry room because I am not going to go out in this crap!

Just a couple winter goat names...
Winter, Powder (as in the snow), Blizzard, Wonder (as in winter wonderland), Chill, Frosty, and my favorite...Flurry.

As for Minnesota cold...The -10 F and colder is a 'Freeze your skin' cold but the upper 20 F and just above freezing with North wind can be a 'chill to the bone' hard to warm up cold. Just a different kind of cold.
BTW it was -50 F with wind chill yesterday. One local school closed, one started 2 hours late, and one left it to the disgression of the parents but stayed open.
We don't have the massive piles of snow in the centre lanes of the roads in the local town. But enough snow to protect plants from freezing out.
Snow is great for banking cold barns. Just pile it against the side....

I like Flurry! It fits too, b/c when I checked her at 1:30 she wasn't in labor and it was the first time I felt her ligaments all the way gone. I figured when we went down to milk she might have started early labor. At 5:00 she was already done! So he came in a hurry--kind of like this snow we had. Normally, I check alot more often--but the snowstorm hindered that this time.

All is well, but it was no fun hauling my preggo behind up the hill in seven inches of snow this morning!

And.....I guess he is pretty big for a Kinder. So that's why the single. He is 11 inches at his shoulders--although I'm not sure about the weight. Around 6 pounds I think. Luna still looks 5 months pregnant.

Any other babies in this MO snow?

Dee

How about taking some Dairy Queen ice treat names.
Of course I can't remember many, right now....Praline Pecan Sunday...I loved those! Banana split. Hot fudge Sunday or your favorite flavor. YOu could go with a Sunday or Blizzard theme for the year.
How about Frappachino for the cold coffee drink...A kid born in the cold early morning.
I must be hungry! For Ice Cream....Strange.

Make sure to take care of the most important pregnant lady..You!

Pam
