I have never grained my bucks and they do just fine on timothy/grass hay. They do lose some weight over rut/winter but regain quickly in the spring and are always bright and active. I know many of those who live in a cold climate like I do say they need to grain their boys to keep weight on. But mine have never had problems.

Susanne, my vet went to a convention & Back late Sunday, He had me start with 3 aspirin 325gr. to start then back him down to 2 a dose. I've have been doing that about every 7-8 hrs. Was just down there & he seems to be feeling a lot better than yesterday, at least he's coming out of his house without me dragging him out to give a shot, drench, aspirin, poor guy. My husband took the boys in a cut small tree from the woods and they love that. He still is not peeing a large steady stream, but it does seem to be getting better, & more of it. Not grunting much either but still straining a little bit but not like yesterday. I am starting to feel a little more relaxed about the whole thing cause I'm really thinking he's going to make it. NO MORE GOAT CHOW orGRAIN FOR ANY OF MY BOYS!!!
Thank God for this forum & all of your help otherwise I'm sure he would not make it. I have learned soooooo much from all of you by reading everything you have to say about all different things! I know that's what helped me recognize the symptoms.
