LOL... no Uncle Harold will never see a frying pan. I actually SAVED him from that fate (some local folks had a mama pig who had babies, the grandkids just loved the littlest one.. please don't eat him.. sucker I am.. oh sure, he can live here FOREVER... LOL... he was wild as a march hare. He still isn't super friendly, but like to have his belly scratched. He started out as simply Harold (after my hubby's uncle, who I thought he sort of looked like LOL) Harold lives in the *weaner* pen.. where all the newly weaned/screaming/yelling where's my bottle!!!! kids go.. They quickly find out the big, black, blob is fun to climb on, jump off, snuggle up again when it's chilly.. Over the years, he just became known as the kids' uncle harold. Right now, I'm wintering the bucks in with him. well...I tried to winter the bucks with him.. he found them stinky.. picked up, packed up and moved to the next little barn with baby Nonnie (the just weaned jersey heifer) Nonnie likes to LICK the pig...who knows why? he's pretty pokey (and porky LOL)...

you may sway me

I am a die-hard ND lover and am very subjective and predjudiced about them, but those babies are so adorable that it makes me want one. They really are beautiful!! I love having newborns in my house for several reasons. You can feed them without freezing your tootsies off, you can spend lots of time w/them to help tame them, you can keep a watchful eye on them, and they're just fun to observe. Good luck and God bless those little guys!

doesnt keeping the baby goats in the house, then moving them out into the cold present a problem? I figured, born in the cold, stay in the cold = handles cold well. or am I mistaken?

I will start taking the kids out (to a pen on the deck that is three sided, so they get fresh air, but no wind) they will spend their days in it, but will be brought back in at night, at least until night temps don't go much below freezing. I don't keep my house really hot, however...that may help. We've never had a problem with switching them back to outdoor living. I feed five times a day, at this age. It's so much easier when they are little.. .just to keep them in the house (also makes them VERY social LOL)

thats interesting. I dont mean to hijack the thread, but Ive only ever had babies in may, and I have a goat due in a month. how do you handle the never ending pee/poop? just live with the smell?
maybe I should build a small indoor thing.

OH they are cute.....
That spotted one looks like my buck. I am hoping he throws some spots this year. Love spotted goats.
Got a buckling from June and Karen last year and bred him to one of my best milkers that has a few faint spots. She had triplets two does and a buck, all spotted. Unfortunatly the two does got smothered in a pile up and died. She has never given me a doe in her 4 years kidding. So I kept her buckling with the spots. She has a big belly now and due in two weeks, I am hoping for another spotted doe.

Being bottle babies, pooping isn't too bad (it's usually a bit firmer in a bottle kid and easier to pick up...) It's a house rule, if you walk by and see a poo, pick it up.. if not... soon all the kids in the pen will use it for *FINGER PAINTING* ... they do pee... A LOT.. in the pics you will can see the thick blue quilt, moving pad. We first put down plastic, then take a pad, fold it double (it fits the kiddie jail, almost perfectly) we change the pad three or so times a day. (I do have to do a LOT of laundry) We live just over the AR border, in MO.. so winters are too bad here. Three & 1/2 weeks with 13!!! babies was our record for in the house (both # wise & length of time>...NEVER again LOL) I spread our kidding out into four groupings this year. By the time the new kids begin to arrive (about feb 4th) the little ones pictured, will be spending even the nights out in the kid pen. .... as for the smell.. it's there (worse at pad changing time LOL) BUT.. nothing a YANKEE CANDLE hehehe, can't help. I should buy stock.

The spotted buck & the little brown girl, with the creamy eyebrows left yesterday. They are on their way to Sweetwater Tx with Chris. We had a great time & look forward to many more visits...
Good luck with your upcoming babies..may you get all the spots you desire!
