As I think I mentioned in a previous post to Patty, I am from outside Elmira NY.

Right now I only have three pygmys, only had them three months or so and loving them. We're talking about fencing in the pasture across the road and getting more in the future, maybe Nubians or Boers, not sure if I want to go meat or dairy. There's a good sized Muslim community in our area, so I've been thinking meat. I plan to talk to the head of the local Muslim organization when the time gets closer to get his input.

I checked my calendar, and I see I am off on that weekend in Sept. so unless my band is booked somewhere, I hope to make at least a day of it.

Chris

toomb68,

Are you in one of the outer 'burbs, or are you hiding the goats in the bathroom?

Oh No !! Watertown !!! Yikes.. snow !! I remember driving up to Ft Drum when our SIL was stationed there with our daughter and grandson in the late 80's. Cold....brrrrrrr... The snow was 5 feet high plowed to the side of the roads !! When we visited them we actually took survival packs with us in the care. They had army housing in Lowville then. We are about 4 hours south of you in PA..southern tier of this side of NY state. We also have nubian goats and are "on watch" for the kids to arrive any day. Try and keep warm !!!

Waving hello here from Darien Center, NY, halfway between Buffalo and Rochester. Yes, this is where Darien Lake amusement park is.

I recognize several names/faces on here and give a big welcome to the newer ones.

I've attended the Caprine Outing 3 times (It's held every other year) and I found this blurb regarding the 2008 outing.

By popular demand, Cornell Department of Animal Science will offer the:
CORNELL CAPRINE OUTING : 2008
a 3-day Goat workshop series
September 19-21, 2008
at the 4-H Camp Owahta, in Solon, Cortland, NY.
This special event will feature Lectures, Demonstrations, Hands-on practices, and much more ...for all, from beginning to experienced Goat owners, Youth, Adults, Hobbyists and Commercial producers in Dairy and Meat Goats. The world known Dr Mary Smith will lead the Goat Health program, along with other distinguished Experts in the fields of Nutrition, Care and Management, Breeding Selection, Marketing, etc... More details will follow. We welcome and appreciate your suggestions to the program.

Here's a link to the 2006 schedule. You'll see that there's TOO MUCH to do!

We only got about 2 inches out of that, but we got quite a bit yesterday and last night. It's still snowing a little here. I just got done shovelling a path to the woodshed, around the barn doors and I'm hoping it stops so I don't have to do it again later

Patty, I didn't know you have a Maremma! I got two back in July, brother and sister, from Minnikin. Awesome dogs!

Can someone give me an idea of the cost of the seminar in Sept.?

I am 8 miles south of Owego (not Oswego) NY and one mile into PA....or about 30 miles west and a tad south of Binghamton, NY. Right now I just have rescued goats but am looking for a couple Nigerian Dwarf does to milk after I retire...in June. I know I am not offically in NY but I can easily walk to NY for my daily exercise.
