Western NY here also. More specifically the Southern Tier. New owner (only a year) of Nigerians. Had three to start and bought the herd Teacupliz had for sale. Had my first kidding Friday night, produced two bucks. Second kidding today, another two bucks!! OH NO!! Not sure whether to sell them as weathers or bucks. All so cute! LOL

Hi,
I live in Wayne County NY, sort of Central North? I moved here a few months ago, no goats yet. Studying up so I can be prepared to get a few in the spring. Anyone else in Wayne County?

Patty, will do! I was planning on going Christmas shopping over there but the weather was lousy on the weekend I was off---you know Watertown, snow belt! Oh, and I couldn't find my birth certificate! LOL Seems you need that AND a driver's licence to cross now. Thanks for the reminder though, I have to find that BC to get a passport also (I think passports are required to cross into the US by the end of this year?)

Sometime soon I think. I really do not keep track as the news depresses me !
Hey I need some help from my Canadian friends. I am helping put together our local wool & Fiber fest . I want to get ahold of knitting weaving and sheep groups on your side of the border. Not only to invite them as customers but also vendors.

nubiansinny,
It looks like maybe you're an hour away. I have been looking for local people that keep dairy goats, but I'm not having too much luck. I keep asking the people I meet, and they keep saying that lots of people around here have goats. Unfortunately they never seem to know anyone personally, or even where they live.
I would love to go out to go visit some small goat farmers. Check out their fencing, goat barns, etc. Ask lots of questions. have someone show me how to hand milk, perhaps witness/assist with a birth. Seeing/doing thing is so much better than trying to learn from a book. Maybe I could come visit you, or anyone one else in the area? (If anyone knows anyone around here, let me know)
Right now I have a cow barn and 7 acres of overgrown pasture (to put it nicely), that is fenced for cows. I have to get things set up for goats.

Patty,
I did contact my local Cornell office, they were one of the ones that said that there are lots of goats in the area, but didn't really know anyone. I did get one name from the director. haven't called them yet, mostly because of my schedule, they are about 45 min away from me.
If you have a link or contact for goat mentoring, that would be great!

I don't have sheep or Angora goats, but you might get some hits if you start a new thread about that topic! Or maybe you did already.

Patty - Thanks, I e-mailed Tatiana
Nubiansinny- yeah it's tough when you move from Someplace else. I moved here from Las Vegas. I'm having a hard time finding anything. I just keep asking everyone I meet, sooner or later I'll find everything!
I won't be making it to the Farm Show, but I am going to the NOFA conference this coming weekend. Anyone else going to that?

Not going there . I noticed the town you live in . I am pretty sure that is were my number grew up and still visits. She is in her 80's I will have to ask her maiden name. They are real nice folks and I am sure her family down there is also.

Hello- Teacupliz HERE!
We are now down to mostly Purebred lamancha;s and a few nubians. Down to 15 does- one buck right now. After milking 30 last year this will be easy. I have a permit from NYS to sell raw milk just like Steff. she helped me have the gutts to get started. NYS gives me a harder time then her so I hope I can make it one more year. One year at a time. I love my goats but have just got into cows and am milking 10 and shipping and actually making money at it. So I am on the cattle board and barter more then here-
Nice to see so many NYers.
Anyone looking for a lamancah buck this spring- write me at teacuplizzy@aol.com
We have some really nice show and milk lines. And great prices.
Thought I would add I have been lucky to meet, kathy, Lynn, Susie and Shelby. All wonderful people.
Liz
