Goats are the staple of many African cultures/nations and I agree if you try to condemn their situation in the eyes of our far more privileged life, it's not a fair evaluation. I do wonder, however, at the wisdom of the Amazing Race producers to tackle a challenge that shows goats being tied up in baskets. Simply from the viewpoint that although they were likely only restrained minutes before the transport, many viewers might get the wrong impression and believe these animals were typically left like this.
For me, it was sad to note the struggle these residents have every day. Yet heartwarming to see their wonderful spirit in the light of their struggles.
As for PETA, I applaud many of their efforts, but they do tend to go off into militant mode far too often.

Good! Maybe the plane will go down and rid them of us!!! Letting all the mink go isn't a good idea! Don't they know they will come and kill oir animals then we kill them! So it kind of is hurting themsleves! If they free an animal they will kill on and then we kill that one! So they are loosing 2 (or more.) animals, but if they leave it all alone then only 1 gets to die!

*sigh*

No, Hazy.

Animal Rights Activists really DID already set loose mink numerous times from the fur farms all over the globe. Basically, mink ran amok, got squashed on the road, caused road accidents, wreaked havoc, and got killed in many sad ways.

I value the ARA and PETA folks in that they are part of the Bell Curve. The loonies, fringies, leftists, and rightists keep the rest of us *cough* SANE folks honest and grounded.

I watched it and never thought a thing about the goat kids. It was obvious they were on their way to butcher. In as safe a manner as those people could afford...

Your kids scream MUCH MORE when you stick them into a box or trap them in your lap and burn their horns off, don't they? Yet you do it every year don't you?

And plenty of us butcher extra kids...so just because it LOOKS a bit different doen't mean it IS different...

Well you did it now bbbuddy... you just opened up the flood gates about disbudding or not disbudding. <he...he>

I happen to agree with you but all those " backyard" breeders are going to come out of the woodwork about how dangerous goats with horns are.

There are plenty of people here on this forum who think disbudding is as cruel as it gets. They'd probably have a heart attack to listen to one of my kids bawl while "trussed up" in a kid box for several minutes, getting disbudded, tattooed, and stuck with needles. Let's not even talk about castration.. a vast majority of which is done with no anesthetics. The cruel reality is, for a majority of the world's population, the act of caring about animals beyond basic needs simply doesn't have a priority, especially when they lack basic care themselves. Not having access to health care, clean water, and the most basic of commodities has nothing to do with self worth, it's the only life they have. Get real people, those goats were no more important than a package of lunch meat here. Do you cry for the cattle butchered while still alive here in the states? For the horses that are standing nearly dead in fields because nobody an afford to feed them and slaughter isn't allowed? How about for the homeless and needy people in your own towns? As for the producers of the show, I applaud them. They give the overfed minority of the world something to consider the next time they whine about traffic or the price of milk.

Very well said........

The Goats were going to butcher and yes they were tied down but lets not forget the livestock that is crammed into trailers in the sweltering heat or the freezing cold not much different just on a larger scale .
They would probably say how strange and barbaric it is to keep goats, cattle, hogs and poultry penned up and have to feed them hay instead of letting them forage.
It is their way of life and it might not be what people on this side of the world agree with but they have to survive.
