That man would never set a foot on that property or in that house again after doing something so incredibly cruel and unnecessary. You very simply don't treat anything that way, not your wife, not your daughter, and most certainly not the defenseless family goat!

If he had been an actual man and upset, he would have told his daughter to pen the goats and clean up the mess and walked away until he calmed down. He's perfectly capable of getting his own beer if he wants it so badly. If things are so intolerable at home, divorces aren't *that* hard to get and then everyone can go their seperate ways. (yes, I know that to some divorce is anathema. But it's a better solution than shooting a family pet and letting it suffer!)

To gut shoot the family goat because you're mad is just so far beyond the pale that I simply can't believe anyone is defending that brute. (not calling him a man, because he ain't one in my book)

None of you people were there, and you do not know all of the story, how any of it REALLY happened.

I have killed may animals in different ways.

That mans 22 year old daughter knows not to let the goats out and make a mess, but she did not care and the man got tired of dealing with it and shot the goat. Maybe he thought the goat was dead but found out later the goat was still alive after the sheriff got there the story does not say.

I told my oldest son ( 19 at the time ) one time years ago not to leave food for our cat on the front porch again because it drew hundreds of ant and became a problem or I would take the cat to the dog pound.

I went out of town for a week to work on a job but the job was cancelled and I came home after the first day.

Yes the cat food was on the porch and the cat went to the dog pound and I would say put to sleep, just like I said I would.

My son started to try to blame me, and I told him now you killed the cat by not believing what I said I would do it he did what I told him NOT to do.

But he thought I was not serious. He believes me now.

I do not know the whole reason why the man shot the goat, but it is still just a goat.

Maybe he shot the goat because the wife refused to get his beer I don't know and you don't either.

Oh I have not shot or kicked my wife in almost 16 years of marriage.
But maybe that disappoints some of you.

If the man really enjoyed what he did to the goat
he would have shot the other goat also.

The judge was not to concerned he only had him on a 1000 dollar bond, because the judge knows he is not a danger to society, or his family which he did not hurt.

To many people want to lump everyone who does something they don't like into to a life time prison.

That is just wrong and using no common sense.

Sorry Bumpus, but there's no excuse for what he did. He was drunk, mean, and deserves to spend some time in jail. I'm just glad it was a goat and not his daughter.

Most people on he have the man heading to death roe because of a simple little goat as if it was a person.

Also the goat belonged to the man to do what he wanted.

This Court Case is another off shot from the politics of people like PETA and groups just like them and Big City people moving to the country and trying to make pets out of everything so you can't kill any thing just like dogs, cats and horses today.

And it won't be long you can't kill any animal, not even a cockroach.

Animals are not people and they are NOT EQUAL to people, and should not be treated as such.

Based on what you've written here today about this particular news item, I am very disappointed in you..........enough so that I would tend to base all my opinions of all your future posts with little regard.

This man did not kill this animal for meat or to protect himself.
He shot this animal out of anger, revenge and to put fear into the members of his family.

Your posts on this thread are making me ill.

This kind of man seems too capable of shooting his daughter or DW once the animals are gone.
And it frightens me that you are so supportive of him.

Some people forget I did not start this thread which is not really about goats or pets, which is another forum.

This is the goat forum where people talk about breeding, buying, selling, raising, using goats for brush removal milk, meat, 4H, etc.

But If I can find someone who knows how to fix food properly I would like to eat a dog, a cat, a horse, a opossum, a skunk, an emu, an ostrich, etc. and many other foods and animals that people eat all over the world, but are not widely accepted in this country the U.S.A. as food.

The man has never be found guilty yet, and If the judge decides to say he is not guilty and turns him free.

Then all you who want to jump on me can wright the judge and the that person the same thing you told me.

No one has heard all of the evidence yet.

And you people who want to jump on me are wrong because I do not like most of your attitudes either, and you know who you are.

I have said nothing wrong to any of you but there are sure enough and a bunch who are self righteous enought to convict with out all of the evidence or a trial.

And that is why we have courts and not vigilante rules in this country or have most of us forgotten this.

First of all, just because one owns an animal does not give them the right to do whatever they want with them, there are laws in place in every state to protect animals from actions such of this. He deliberately caused the suffering of this goat - no matter what his reason - that is illegal as well as immoral.
Second, I would put the lives and well-being of my or ANY animal above someone like that or like you. Animals may not be people, they're better then "some" people but they all deserve respect.

BUT, i also feel this is a public forum that each individual person can express there opinion and just because we disagree does not mean we should try and get that person banned.

There are other ways to terrorize and abuse people than to "shoot or kick them". Shooting, torturing, or doing anything else to an animal with no way to defend itself because your family didn't do what you told them to...is unexcuseable. I think they should put the man out in the yard, and shoot at him when he asks for beer again. Just my take on things... my opinion, and we all know about opinions, everyone has one.
I am honestly shocked, however, that someone with the title "mediator"...is on a thread provoking members. I thought mediator meant mediating...listening to, and trying to understand both sides. Again, just my observation. A goat forum is going to be full of goat lovers. Why come to a place like that, and pick a fight?
