We bought a EZ milker and after 3 months the pump quit , plus every time the goat moved it lost vacuum , so after a little thought we bought a car brake bleeding pump from harbour freight , its brass and has a vacuum gauge built in , that and a piece of plastic hose plus the teat cup and bottle from the EZ milker and it works a treat , you can see how much vacuum you have and the pump is held in one hand and the teat cup in the other ,making one like this means no milk gets into the pump , it works great .

If I don't need the milk, can I just let the kids nurse this freshening until the teats are larger? I have a ff Kinder due next month, and those are some tiiiiny little teats.

But, Cloverbud, if she naturally weans the kids at 4 - 5 months, and dries off, won't that set the length of her lactation (at 4 to 5 months)? Or would you try milking her then, once the kids are of weaning age?

I'd probably be ready to try milking her by then. I have a herd of 5 ff's. I'm gonna be busy!

I'm a dunce - how do you make it work for a milker?

Last year a had a FF doe that hade a beautiful huge udder, nice and round and these tiny lil teats pokin out. You could not in any way grab any udder with her teat to get a better hold, like can be done on most.
I milked her with my thumb bent IN, and then my fingers against that. Her teats were not only small in length, but also small around, so I was not able to grasp at all, hence the need to milk against my thumb.
This was easier for me than just using the pad of my thumb. My mom was with us for a time and she did use the pad of her thumb.
This doe milked near a gallon a day, real sweet doe.

Boy! This is an OLD thread - LOL!

Earlier this season I had an ff kid out. Had high hopes for her as her dam was a milking-fool Alpine. HOWEVER, this gal had teats that can only be described as PIMPLES ON A BALLOON. Twin sister freshened, and has a gorgeous udder and nice teats and nice capacity. *sigh* You never can tell . . .
