Ooops...sorry I was late with the posting .... you guys will have to go on and have the party without me I (keeping fingers crossed) sold my sheep (good news since I REALLY didn't want to have to eat them!) and I believe the lady is coming to get them Sunday as that's my only day off in the coming week and a half. We haven't worked out a time yet. I'll be there for the next one though!

Hey Emily,
If this works out well and you want to post your butchering day for the spring, it would be great if my husband and I could come as well. Just can't make it tomorrow. I think it is incredibly nice of you to offer.

I didn't get to read this til today so I guess i missed out..... I was wondering if you would sell some of the meat for me to try out on my family, my husband says i need to do that before I can invest in goats. I am just a little south of Harrison AR. Is this something that you do or do you know of where I can get some goat meat and not a whole goat as we need to see if that is what we like. thanks JIL

It went well. Got to spend some time with friends and the butchering went almost perfectly(there was this little episode with the ear....just goes to show you shouldn't cut and talk at the same time... ).

Cricket got here later, but we had a great visit and talk with she, her husband and their *adorable* children!

I would be happy to do the same thing next time I butcher.

Ah, but I have ulterior motives.....I get to meet new goat people and vist with friends already made!
I sure will try to let you know before I butcher again in the spring. I have Boer kids due in December so its possible I'll be ready to butcher by May or so.

I would be very willing to let you have a haunch to see if you'd like it. Are you going to be anywhere near Cabool, MO anytime soon?
Don't think I can sell it as I slaughtered it myself....but I can give it away.

Here is the wether we butchered. He was a February kid, all browse and mommas milk, no grain. He is a FB Boer. Was destined to be a breeding buck, but had a totally twisted ear at birth that was not correctable. So he is in the freezer.

<sigh> cabool is a little over 1 hr. east of south springfield. but it's nice to be able to talk to someone else who likes goats. from taking the goat out of the field to putting it in the freezer took probably less than one hour. saw her sisters cute little bottle calf and met her little brother, matt, who likes grapfruite. didn't get the chance to see the puppies or dairy girls, which was probably a good thing since I took my car and a goat in the back seat on the way home would be smelly and cramped. lol!

Hey OJ, quick question. Do you use goat in dishes that people often use beef for? Burger? Lasagna? Tacos? What are some of the dishes that you use it in? Do you grind some of the meat? What cuts does it usually end up being?
