I would be giving them warm bowls of milk if they will drink it.

How are they this morning?

I had been using B vitamins the ferrodex was too late for the buckling. The doeling however is up and around and eating this am.They were wormed on schedule with valbazen and cydectin but I think the stress of loosing their mom and being weaned at the same time was too much. They got down before I noticed and Wham!!

Sorry to hear that you lost the buckling, as you said "Wham" , and dealing with Vets that plod along isn't helpful either. Well, at least you tried everything and have the doeling to concentrate on; keep with the supplements, it may take her weeks to fully recover. Now, the vet that "helped" me said that injectable iron was very likely to cause anaphylactic shock - 'course he wouldn't provide the epi ! So I was giving lixitonix orally.

Chris, I am sorry that you lost the buck. I have never had to deal with anemia in goats, only a horse when I got him, because he was starved to death. I gave him the red cell.
I would continue to give her a bottle. She might talk it after a lot of attemps, and maybe different nippels. Good luck with her.
I would NEVER wait three days for a fecal result. I give the sample to the vet tech, and they go do it right then. It only takes minutes to get the results. If the vet office is not doing it right then you are not getting accurate results.

Thanks all.
Liese I used to work with an internist and gave shots to humans for years. Anything injectable can cause anaphylaxis(SP). In 15 years we had it only once (antibiotic) and I gave alot of shots in those years. Goats are different I know. I do have epi though in case. No problem with the shots though they did hurt. It isn't easy to find any muscle to put it into either.

The doeling is taking some milk now.We don't have many vets to choose from. Most goat growers in this area do their own vetting. The closest vet to me sends the fecal samples out. They do dogs but not "farm Animals". The one that knows something about goats (the one who did the fecal) is about 30 minutes from me. I need to quit putting off doing my own fecals. I have enough goats now to make it worth the effort.

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I learn more every day.

I've been told that all shots can be given SQ in goats because of their fast metabolism. Less pain that way too.
