Believe it or not, your little guy will probably do the job for you *this* year! You might not get any does bred early -- but by November or December, he'll get the job done!

He would be around 6m, But these are good size girls. I would think at that age he would be too small, maybe not to young, But too small. I don't know. got a good point there.

O ya, well one of our girls is a Nubian X Pygmy, which i thought was odd, but you have to love her, She looks like a Nub, but her legs aren't as long. Other then that.
So hey i guess your right, I didn't even think of that. lol Point taken

Last week was our local fair; a woman I talk to every year was bemoaning the fact that her nigerian buck had learned to leap the fence. She said that even though her boer buck had settled all her boer herd, 9 of 10 of the boers freshened with boer/nigerian kids. I laughed so hard! She said she figured out that "Romeo" would jump the fence, breed a doe, then jump back out into his own pen to avoid getting stomped on by her boer buck.

"Fair"- the other 4 letter F word." This epiphany came after almost 10 days straight at our county fair.

If he is 6 months old now he should be plenty buck enough to use for breeding this season. Young bucks are quite eager and willing and older does are also game. I have used LaMancha and Boer bucks as young as 4 months old (each) and been 100 percent successful with the planned breedings. With one doe in particular who was quite tall, I led her to a depression in the earth and the little buckling was able to reach her before she moved away. Just takes seconds and the job is done

Do be careful of bringing in diseases that could taint your herd (and your farm land) for years. Look for abscesses under the hair and coat. No runny noses or diarrhea. Many of us quaranteen and do blood tests on all incoming stock in order to avoid heartbreak and financial devastation. It also helps to buy from others who do the same.
