I agree Emily. Some of my best Boer does are unregistered American Boers but they have some of the prettiest kids. I have sent you a pm about the web address.

A myth? Hmm tell that to the gal who won Nationals...and still has LAST years buckling left for sale, forget about this years No matter how you slice it, there exsists discrimination between Amercian and Purebred Nubians...the only ones who will not admit this is those who raise Amercian Nubians. You simply make less money all things being equal so why tell new people to get into them. Honestly there is very little difference in price between what you get for unregsitered or American Nubians, except to inexperienced new folks...or worse goats registered with unknown registries, sure people will buy them, but soon they realize that Amercian Nubians, unregistered goats and goats regsitered out of ADGA are like having CKC dogs once they start breeding in earnest or their kids want to show.

With hay and feed prices what they are, unless you are running a dairy, raising purebred ADGA registered, CAE negative tested, CL negative stock simply makes your homestead the most money. So it's the advice I give. Vicki

Vicki, I didn't say it was unaquivically(sp?) a myth, I said, "Half of that is myth *if your not selling for really high prices*."
The high or show prices is the point where you will have trouble selling American Nubians. I don't sell mine for show prices. My doelings sell at a few days old for usually $150-$200. At that price I have no problem selling a few American Nubians. That is why *for a homestead goat* there is absolutely nothing wrong with American Nubians.
Now, if you are planning on making $300+ on an American Nubian kid?? You better forget it and go Purebred. Not because they *are* inferior, but because the mindset of so many is that they are inferior.
And the only thing that is going to change that is American breeders not listening to the nay-sayers and continuing to breed a good American Nubian.
Chris, I'm on my way out the door, but I'll get that website to you soon.

Not to step on any one, but the Boer X Nubains I have seen are ALWAYS the best in the ring. The nubian gives them Dairy and the boer gives a very nice high udder. As for them being crossed after 5 breedings (Thats what it is here) the boer wouldn't have too too much blood in a doe. I have seen so many Canadains (Same as American) Take best in show and thats because one person forgot to get a breeding slip and ended up with. A very good doe that sould have had papers

Any way you look at it. A doe that walks, milks, sounds like a goat is usally all a starter herd needs.
Just like the La Mancha breeders say "YOU DON'T MILK THE EARS" Well "You don't milk the does great great great great grand does udder do you?" By that time all her bloodlines ARE GONE!

See my point!
Sorry if this made any one mad!!!!!

There is a lady in the next county that does get between 300-350$ for her Americans... and she ALWAYS has a waiting list. The girls milk 10-14 lbs a day, have nice long lactations and are bred to good milk lines, so I guess it all depends on area.

.....................

In what ring? We are talking about dairy goats. And yes extra teats hang around that long As does will to milk, those heavy shoulders, poor feet and legs and overall dairy character. Vicki

In Unrecorded grades and recorded grades. The Boers around here are all out of Parrie Gem Winceasther (sp??) and all have 2 teats and are very very strong in all them. Never the matter I don't own any and the ones I have seen in a ring are does with 1/4 of boer. But they still do good.

I'ts unethical to register meat goat percentage animals and record them with ADGA or AGS. So you must be talking about a county fair that does not have registered animals or honestly....judges who know anything about dairy goats. It would be like taking an Angus/Jersey cross into a show and winning the show against a purebred Holstien...ain't ever going to happen.

When my children used to show at the county level, we used to frequent a show up north that was judged by a dairy cattle judge. We always took our biggest (fattest) goats with us because he loved them! But dairy? Nope not to save their life, you can tell on fat does just what poor milkers they are by just looking at them.

The quality of dairy animal you are seeing must be very poor.

Vicki

Well my number just came up and I am getting a little spotted girl too. I can't wait as this will be my first purebred registered nubian girl. Thanks about my website, I need to get it updated with my new dairy girls on it. I have now 2 grade nubian doelings, 1 american lamancha doeling and am getting 1 purebred registered nubian buckling and 1 purebred registered nubian doeling and I will be done with my starter dairy herd. I am gonna keep my 4 remaining pygmies till they kid this fall and then all the pygmies will be gone and I will have just a dairy herd.
