I'm so sorry you lost the doe and kid. Something must have torn in there and she either bled out or went septic. Three years ago I had a doe with a large kid stuck in her birth canal with his head turned back and his sister coming down on top of him. I tried to straighten it out and couldn't. I took her to the vet. She did a C section and saved the kids but the doe's uterus was torn so I had her put down. Since then, when something is really stuck I don't mess with it. I take them to the vet. I've had two yearlings C sectioned the past two years and saved both the does and their kids.

Wendy, I'm so sorry you lost them. I don't know what to say, I know words can't change anything, so I'll just say I hope you never have to go thru that again.

My dd does our newsletter for our local goat assoc. and in this months issue she is printing a section called "Just when you thought you've done it all" We have quit saying that with pygmies. They are always surprising us with a new kidding venture or goat therapy for crooked legs.

Lute won't help at this point, her cervix started closing about 4 hours after birth. Setting her into another cycle is a horrid idea. When we had a retained placenta, our vet used an uterine bolus and was totally against the lute. The bolus was horrible for him to place and she was mighty uncomfortable for a while, but as soon as she cycled back in on her own (5 days after birth) she passed the placenta.

Sorry to hear about the rough birth. I totally agree with the others in offering her warm water and nutridrench or red cell....she needs a pick me up for sure!

Oh, Wendy, I am so sorry. Our last doe this year had a huge buck kid first and I had to send the small kids away because I didn't think it would be alive. He was alive though and his sister, who was also huge, but it really scared me none the less. I can't even imagine going through what you went through. It's what scares me about having livestock, things can just go wrong.

How awful for you. I too had to pull a kid that presented in the exact way as yours. Fortunately all went well. These are the times that test us all as goat keepers. So very sorry.

Sorry about the experience, the kid, and your doe. I hope and pray that you never have to go through anything like that ever again.
