Aaaah, yesterday! An absolutely beeee-yoooo-teeee-ful day...clear blue sky, daffodils blooming, invasive acacia in full yellow bloom and GREEEEEEEEN grass growing all around, all around. The goats peered out from their archipelago of straw and hay and actually ventured out to sun themselves in the grass. Fatty Gladdy even got too hot and had to move to the shade. A happy respite from the incessant rain. My sister, a wildlife refuge manager in Eastern South Dakota/Minnesota, called me. She was supposed to be on a week vacation with my mom in La Paz, Mexico. Instead she was snowed in...totally brought my whininess into perspective. I won't complain about rain anymore.

I'll hold her - you kick her.

Heavy snow then freezing rain on Thursday - schools let out at noon, so had to drive bus through it all. Friday, buses cancelled. We managed to get the driveway cleared yesterday. Now we're going back into the deep freeze, lows around 0F for a few days. There's a crust on the snow, everything else is ice - real fun walking to the barn.

Well it WAS around 40 for the past few days, but that only lasted for a few days, and it only melted a little bit of snow, and today it was blowing and 30ish. We still have snow I thought we woudl have an early spring. It was sooo warm back in December, and now we are paying for it... This week its supposed to be wind chills in the teens and single digits. booooooo

I feel for you. We're not getting wind and drifts, but still snow. Haven't seen the pasture since November. All last week it snowed several inches at night and then melted or snowed more during the day. Never melts enough to go away, just to compress, slide off my roof and form a mountain shaped baricade around my house and barn.

Seems like winter always gives you one last punch before spring heads in. Can't wait to see the grass again! Of course before that happens my yard and driveway will turn into a giant slurpy type slush bowl which is always challenging to drive in.. LOL In fact I can't help cutting a doughnut in it every once in a while :baby04:

That happens here, where it will snow, then warm up and rain on top of the snow, then freeze for a few days, so you have this rumpled surface to walk on. None of my boots give any traction on it, even the dogs and geese flop around, so I've decided to get crampons, like the mountain climbers wear. I think they have a kind with just a few spikes for nagivating frozen ground.

I figure spring is coming when the driveway (about 700 ft) thaws and the ruts come through, so I start banging my head on the roof a few times as I go.

That sounds about right, LOL.

We don't have a plow and can't afford to hire one except on extreme occasions. So it packs down as we drive on it and after it does this melt thaw routine for a while we've got those deep tacks. Feels like your on a roller coaster or a bobsled run... LoL.... Add a little slush and your under carraige is dragging... Ahhhhh spring :banana02:

It's an interesting experience.

Can I get the first kick in? hehe

In the last 2 weekends, we've had about 18-20 inches of snow. Blowing snow, so huge drifts., AND spent 12 hours plowing with ATV and tractor, most of that being out in the pastures/paddocks, trying to keep the animals in where they belong (goats like to climb on drifts if sturdy enough!) and enable them to walk around.

And now it's really cold again here, it's like 20*, but cold winds. SPRING COME SOON!!!!

Taking my students outside after lunch so they can lie in the grass while I read aloud to them (another FABULOUS set of books-by Ralph Moody-Little Britches is the first one-like Little House books but for boys) because the day is toooooooo darned gorgeous to keep 10 year-olds inside. Then IF the weather holds on Wednesday, we're planting potatoes in buckets so the kids can schlep them in and out each day for sun. Anyone ever grown potatoes in 5 gallon buckets? A GREAT lesson for kids-tons of learning and hands-on to boot. Plus you get to EAT the end results. YAY FOR SPRING! YAY FOR SPRING!! I am totally AMPED today ....I'll be totally depressed again on Wednesday when it's dark and dreary and pouring rain again...but for now, YAY for SPRING!!! Plus, fatty Gladdy looks like she might kid this week! Yay!!!!!!!!
