We name out butcher wethers really obnoxious names and don't play with them. Things like "Meathead" and Foghorn". Some have had really obnoxious names that should not be in print...hey, whatever works!

WELL....#1 died. I guess he just was "stuck" too long. He was doing "okay" but didnt thrive and died in mom's arms. Nanny (thats her name) still has scours. We've vaced and wormed her both but we are going to go ahead and give her antibiotics too. She doesnt have any milk to speak of (this is a doe who was being a nurse goat to baby calves) so we are bottle feeding #2. Nanny is ----ED.

If anyone can think of anything else we can do let me know.

Joy

Kefir?
Yogurt?
Worm medicine?
Plenty of hay?
Alfalfa pellets?

I am so sorry about #1. I hope #2 is doing well.

For mom, does she have a congested udder? Lots of warm wet compresses and massage helps. Try milking her out well if you have pulled the baby. You can feed the milk back to the baby. Did you pull the baby completely or are you just supplementing with a bottle but letting her live with mom?

What are you feeding in the bottle if not goats milk? There have been a lot of people having problems with replacer - whole cows milk from the grocery store seems to be safer.

Hope mom gets better soon.

Dawn

This is a good question, Joy. I'd leave him with mom to keep her less stressed, and just supplement with bottles of real goat milk if at all possible.

We are feeding #2 goat milk in a baby bottle and leaving him with mom. She has no udder. She didnt really have much of one when she kidded. She wasnt really supposed to kid for at least another month. Neither one of them weighted 6 lbs. (4 something and 5 something...cant remember off the top of my head). She had a little but apparently not enough. sigh. we picked up antibiotic this afternoon and am gonna get her in the morning (barn has no lights. tornados will do that to ya) I hope it helps cause she lays down alot now. sigh.

We wormed and vaced her. we got probos in an easier to handle tube this afternoon (we had that honking big one thats living hell to use), I'll dose her in the morning. Shes getting feed and has hay, clean water and the like. Mom had coyotes come up in the yard last night and kill a guniea, shake head. The barn isnt too far from that. shake head. I tell ya, I finally gave up, sat down in the middle of the kitchen floor and hyperventilated!!!

Ark...sorry I didnt IM. Katie had been carrying around Aphrodite and decided she needed a "drink" and held her over the 3' high concrete round water through, and she "slipped". I heard a screaming, came out and saw my tiny 4lb something doeling bottlebaby SWIMMING IN THE TROUGH. I ran so fast that when I reached her my legs gave out. Katie fished her out and she's fine, but Katie's not allowed to touch the goats from now on. There must be some kind of cosmic alignment or something because 3 times this week she's stolen my make up (I have prescriptives makeup...the really expensive stuff. It was a wedding gift from mom) and one time about $500.00 of it wound up in the tank behind the house!!!! (I didnt know until I dredged the tank to get her purse out and noticed that it looked a little FULL.) I do NOT know what has gotten INTO that girl this week!!!!

ackkkkkkk *Joy running in circles pulling her hair out*

Joy, I have no idea why or how it works, but, we had a doe that kidded last week and had scours shortly after. Last year someone suggested we give one of our goats banana for scours. It worked for a kid so we have tried it with all our goats when they get the runs. It worked for our doe this time. Try it.

Joy, it sounds to me like you are doing a good job. Hopefully in a day or so Nanny will come into milk.
I'm surprised you arent totally grey headed with that girl of yours!! I'd have had a heart attack by now. LOL
(OK, I must admit that when my son was that age he was a hyperactive maniac!! )
The only reason we survived his childhood is because we took him off all food colorings, flavorings, preservatives, etc and he calmed WAAAAAAAYYY down!
Maybe some pepto for the scours.
Good luck!

Last time you saw me I had THREE. Now I cant count them, but to be fair alot of that has to do with the court battle over Sabrina. I've been trying to be more careful about the dye thing. Mom had mentioned to me that some kids are allergic and so one night I looked it up on the internet and told mom the next day that its not really that they are allergic it's that red food coloring is a PESTICIDE!!!! *loving mom pulling hair out* ACKKKKKK. No more red food coloring!!!! giggle. The things we learn when we pay attention. giggle. I tell you if I had time I'd be completely paranoid about what we eat, all the pesticides they use on food. The best I can do is raise some ourselves. Trying more every year. almost have the greenhouse finished. etc. shake head. I dont know what gets into her sometimes. Sometimes I actully consider meds (for her or me I'm not sure yet!!! giggle) LOL. giggle.

BANANAS ???!!!??? First thing in the morning I WILL DO!!!

I tell ya, no more emergencies allowed this week. Not allowed. Na uh. Putting my foot down. Yeah......and such.

Dusty cracked Evan's rib this week. That doe has GOT to GO!!! Anyone want a GOOD deal on a registered French Alpine doe???? giggle. I'd happily trade her for a lamancha doe. Dont need papers. Young is fine. Heck...weaned doeling even.........LOL
