I am furious! I finally have Mom and baby at home but the vet charged me $365 after he neglected my goats & almost cost me my baby. Some people just don't have business sense. He not only lost a customer but someone that could have given him a bunch of referrals.

Not only that, you could of lost the doe. If the baby was dead, I bet you would of lost mom also. Thank the good lord for the outcome.

he must mainly be a small animal vet. With prices like that, I would just about guaruntee most of his clients are pet owners. Also, especially how he put you off. HHHHmmmmm, I think its time to get a new vet.

That darn vet! That is WAY to much money. But, hey, at least you got a live and beautiful baby out of that poor doe! I hope they both turn out okay.

When my first doe ever had kids, she had 3 breech triplets 18 hours after her water broke. Unlike, you though, I was too dumb and inexperienced to call the vet. Just like Olivia and her momma, they all got through it.

Hmmm...if I was you I would look around and see if you can't find a different vet to use. Putting you off for that long is just plain stupid.....granted there where other emergancys but still they could have at least LOOKED at the doe. I am lucky to live in the land of country vets . I have many livestock vets around and my vet even raises and breeds goats (very nice to have her!).

I would look around and just see what your options are if I was you. I am glad your little gal made it through ok and with a live one.

MountainMama, Consider yourself lucky. Here, a C section for a goat is $500+. Doesn't matter if it lives or dies, you still owe them for the work they did, in their opinion. Same with surgery for a horse--there you're talking in the $5000 range! We had one that came out of the surgery fine, then fell and broke a leg while staggering around in the padded room they had for recovery. Didn't matter, we still had to pay, even tho we lost a champion stallion. Glad your doe and kid survived! Jan in CO
