Oldntimes, for me personally 2 reasons, we show our goats so it's always possible for them to pick up things from shows, cae, microplasms, so I pull my kids and raise CAE prevention. Just because my doe might test Neg for cae, doesn't mean she for sure is just means that it's dormant, or no antibodies are being created against it. Also Dam raised kids are Wild! I want tame bottle fed babies who dont try to break off my shoulder every time they need their hooves trimmed. So I won't Knowingly buy a dam raised kid ever. I do have one I bought unknowingly and his days here are numbered! Even with his great genectics. and I bet no one will offer to buy him when he's offered for sale.

I'd buy B, but I'd want to see the test paperwork on the herd first, and see for myself that every animal in the herd, especially the dam, had a recent negative test. If the herd were to big for that to be feasible, I'd look elsewhere.

I would only buy B. I have gone the other routes and been burned.

I'm confused. Theres several that said no C-which is bottle raised CAE prevention and they have been "burned".

I'm not sure how that happens. My understanding of CAE prevention includes taped nipple when birth is imminent, and the kid never has unpasteurized milk.

If the breeder is pooling unpasteurized milk adn feeding it, that is not CAE prevention as I understand it.

I'd consider properly done CAE prevention to be SAFER than B, since a test negative dam can have false negative, or be positive but not seroconverted when the test was done.

One breeder I know has a neat trick- she also milks a cow- and feeds the cows milk to the kids, and does milk to the calf, with plenty of GM left over for the LGD"s and the pig she raises every year.

What am I missing? How can CAE prevention be more unsafe than a dam raised baby?

I would happily do B or C, BUT only (and ONLY) if the entire herd was CAE (AND CL!!!!!) negative! I don't think "raised on CAE prevention" means a whole lot to some of those breeders advertising that . I've been trying to find CAE/CL negative lamancha does in Wisconsin for almost a year. and have yet to find ANYONE that is clean. The breeders are honest (and one of these breeders even was in the ADGA Select 06 Sale) and openly admit they have CAE and CL animals (but their kids are "raised on prevention"), which is better than lying I guess. But, that's why I'm buying my lamanchas out of state from reputable people that test and can prove it.

I'm happily buying nigerians in state as it seems most nigie people test annually, can prove it, and even with about half having dam raised kids, it's a good thing.
