I "don't mind" the smell either . . . I guess I've been hoping and praying for a good buck for so long that his smell just means I have him, he's virile, he's healthy, and I'll have babies in the spring. I walked out to the goats today and felt relief (again) that I have him now, as his smell hit me several yards away. Funny how buck odor has become "reassuring" to me .
Thank goodness I dried the girls off before I left. They love him so much they stand against him, and lovingly rub their heads against his beard. They won't "share" the pellets with each other, but all will share their bucket with HIM.
Still we must live in the real world where buck odor is an awful lot like hot tar but worse somehow. The advice given in this thread will come in handy for me and hopefully for Jcran .

maybe the love to my boys don't let me recognize how bad they stink. i have three stinkers and one more lovable than the other.
i have to admit that it is a little bit difficult right now to give them the good scratch behind the ears or under their chin because they are kinda sticky if you know what i mean

I wanted to trim bucks hooves today and move a few around as it's going to snow gang busters tonight! The buck smell doesn't bother me too much, but.. I have to drive a bunch of school kids home this afternoon, then run up town, and dash back home to attend a mother daughter Ladies and Lassies, at the church. So I'll tackle the bucks a nother day. That would be a fun way to handle disobedient kids on the bus, come back and talk to them with Buck clothes on!! They'ld have tears in their eyes.
he he he he.

It works for coffee breath and 5th graders who are acting goofy, too. I just do a quick "in your face" quiet talk and watch them wither, not from my voice but from the coffee vapor.
PS I DO tell my kids that if my breath is REALLY bad, they can politely suggest I enjoy a mint...it's life-skill training.

I really think once you have goats, you get rather used to the "smell" rather quickly! In fact, sometimes I have to admit I kind of like the buck smell!
Now my wife, well, sometimes when I come in from the goat pen she says "Ewwww, you smell like goat!" I sniff and I don't "smell" anything!!!

My riendly boy, who is distinctly stinky, lol, still thinks he deserves lovins, too. I won't pet him right now because he's sticky, but that doesn't mean he doesn't hover around me, lol. I was putting in thier waterer/deicer combo the other day, and I looked up right into his face!! I just had to give him a pat, and itch his beard (I had my goat gloves on.
And yes, I have gotten used to the smell... Especially since without them I wouldn't get any of the darling little babies I enjoy so much every spring/summer.

I love my stinky ol' Hoss too. He is such a sweetheart. My hubby gets a big kick when I call out as I walk out the back door~"Hoss...you STINK!!!" No, I do not particularly like his odor!!! He did the same thing to me today when I was out at his water bucket. Slapped a big ol' wet one right on my face!!!

layers is a good idea and wash your hands with goatmilk soap. This is what i did before I went to work each day - they don't appreciate the bucky smell.
