Hey Vicki,You are awesome.I was smiling about your comment re: vets that can see inside a goat without any high tech equip. Some of these vets out there are just like human MD's.Everything with horses now is "ulcer,ulcer,ulcer..."and of course, the lovely phamaceutical follow ups medicine,medicine,medicine...They sell horse pepto in gallon jugs now for triple the price it was before everyone hopped on the "ulcer" band wagon.I swear they must go to these seminars, get told one thing, then they all start following it to the EXTREME.In the hosp I work at,everyone has ended up on 'Prilosec' within a 2 month period ! how were these people ok for 10 + years, and now they all need to be on this med ? (sigh) It is exactly what I think happens w/ the vets.Of course a few people/or animals do need it,but it has gone way overboard. All I could think about when she said the vet told her 'ulcer',was that the vet had very limited goat exp.,so just lumped the goat in w/ the new horse 'ulcer' "epidemic",and made a guess.Like I said,I am certain some animals do,in fact ,have ulcers....but,come on,does this now mean every time a doctor can't find an answer,we are going to say 'ulcer'....just the thought of this is starting to give me one ;o). AND IN CLOSING...Be cautious of the written word,it is not gospel, only information from that particular farm/person on what they have found successful.I am not surewhy pygmylover got a little snippy with you...I have found actual hands on,and length of one's exp is a better indicator of the odds being in favor of a SUCCESSFUL outcome with the animals.I like to think we come to this site for positive interactions...I am not to fond of pygmylovers emotion toward the letter you left in response...Pygmylover,let's try to keep focused on the health of the goat(s) not your opinion of someone's opinion of someone's opinion...you follow ? Ok ,smiles all around, everyone give your goats a hug,and proceed with optimism and an open mind.

Update

I just wanted to let you know....sorry for the delay, I have been traveling this week....that we lost the little guy.

Saturday AM...we rushed him to the better of our 2 vets (i trust him)...45 minutes away...as a last resort. The vet looked at him quickly and said...he has lice and he is dying....just like that!

He treated him for the lice and then said that the bloating was from his red blood cells not working right...and that fluid was building up around his stomach. He drained it and his stomach and get him som meds and sent us on our way and said that he didn't think he would make it but there is always a chance. Nice thing was...he only charged my friend 30.00 for the visit.

He died about 4 hours later.

Just thought you might like the update.

oh how sad but what a nice vet. Did he say what caused the problem with the red blood cells? or was he born with it?
