The goat vet whose goat health seminar I attended stated that about 99% of CAE is transferred through milk.

He said that bucks will not get it nor transmit from mating. Also that it is extremely unlikely to get it from shows. But that from prolonged sharing of feed troughs and water buckets could cause infection to spread.

Not to be contrary, Jillis - but I know someone whose herd went from CAE negative to CAE posative when they used a posative buck. CAE prevention didn't prevent some of the offspring from getting it either. Bucks can transmit CAE from mating. All these goats were in separate pens - and bred 'in hand'.

I have heard that they can only transmit the CAE through breeding if they are shedding white blood cells at the time of the breeding.

I'm no expert - just sharing what I've been told from someone who paid the price.
