Pro: females are traditionally more protective of their home, that's why dog breeders always take the female to the male for breeding. Sometimes a female will not allow the male to enter her domain even for breeding.

Con: if the female has pups, she will not be on guard duty when taking care of her pups. If you have other dogs that isn't a problem, but if she's the only one, then the goats are unprotected during that time.

Congrats on the babies! I had 2 liters here and couldn't hardly give them away. Nobody in my area wanted GP's. finally got the female fixed so I wouldn't end up feeding 20 dogs myself.

Hmmm, Emily. Maybe I should get one of each instead of two males since they will be sharing a farm. One will be in a corral with all the milking does and the other will be in a 2 acre pasture with the Boer does, the bucks will be enclosed in pens inside the pasture.
Any advice, anyone?

My experience has been that a Pyr will be where a Pyr wants to be. A fence that will hold a goat will not hold a Pyr. I never know where I'll find mine. Sometimes they are in a pen with the goats, sometimes laying out in the pasture, sometimes at the front gate holding a travelling salesman in his car. One will walk the perimeters of the property all night long. The other will stay close where they can see the goats. During the day they look like they are sleeping without a care in the world, they suddenly they are up and off investigating the far end of the pasture. The only thing I'm sure of is that I have never lost a chicken, or any other animal here since the dogs came here to live. Even as puppies they chased the armadillos away. I figure they know their job and do it well, so where ever they want to roam is fine with me.

Hi April,
If you were getting brothers, they might get along just fine, especially since they would be nuetered.....but I'm not sure as I've never done that before. If your going to get both fixed anyway.....you might want to go with a male and a female just to be on the safe side, they work well as a team. I know our two nuetered males don't get along if they are left together, but they were not raised together either.... I really don't know. I was just always told to use a male/female team and it does seem to work the best.

Emily, Would you be willing to ship a couple of pups? I'm thinking it sure would be nice to have a couple LGD's and your price is right. I'll pay for the crate and the shipping.

Hi Lois,
I think I could ship, though I have never done so before. I have had a few inquiries about that and have told the folks that I'm willing, but would need to charge a little more for the extra time and the trip to the airport and vets to get health papers. Thats another thing, you would need to pay for health papers. I'm willing to try, as long as all that didn't scare you away....

Good gracious, they are cute! I will buy a male and a female, then. All white, preferably.
I have a crate to send you to ship them in. Please call your vet to ask their price on vet health certificates. I'll pm you for the info necessary to make shipping arrangements via Delta. They have to be 8 wks old to ship, so I'll need their birthday. I've shipped out border collies before through Delta and all went well.
I'm excited to finally get my Pyrs!!
